Mr. and Mrs. G, L. McAfee
spent the first Sunday with the
family of Mr. H. II. Hunt. Mrs.
Hunt is very sick at this writing.
Miss Madaline Castleberry spent
Saturday and Sunday with rela¬
tives at Cleveland.
Mrs. John Arrendale and son,
Earl, of Cornelia, were guests of
Mr. and Mrs, W. G. Campbell
Sunday.
Several Horn this part have gone
to work on the Blood mountain
railroad.
Rev. Marvin Allen preached an
interesting sermon at Loudsville
the first Sunday.
While in Cleveland Saturday,
July 5th. Judge G. K. Allen
united in marriage Mr. Barnie
Dooley and Miss Mozelle Dorsey,
the wedding took place in the or¬
dinary^ office. Mr, Dooley hand¬
somely tipped the Judge, took his
bride and went his way rejoicing.
Mr. Albert Blalock lost his only
plow animal last week. This
makes the second horse Albert has
lost this summer. He has also lost
his only hog. He is a hardwork¬
ing boy, attends to his own busi¬
ness, and treats everybody with
respect. Now if anyone feels in
dined to help Albert, any little
contribution will be highly appre¬
ciated by him and his wife. His

route.

Miss Dora Slielnut died Sunday
morning and was laid to rest in

A party from South Carolina,
who were out on a fishing trip for
a few weeks, spent Friday night
and Saturday at the home of Mr.
J. G. Johnson.
Miss Alice Goss is visiting her
brother, Mr. Robert Goss, this
week.
Miss Leola Skelton, of Cleve¬
land, visited Miss Ruth Stovall
Sunday night and Monday.
A large crowd attended confer¬
ence meeting at Blue Creek Sat¬
urday,
Mrs. Mertie Dixon is visiting
her parents in Habersham county

Opposed To Direct Tail

Mr. Editor :
I think I know the people of
White countd well enough to say
that they do not want any such
legislation as Mr. Kimsey says he
will give us in the bill to levy a
direct tax for road purposes. This
bill will become a law unless we
take adtive steps to defeat it.
I suggest that all the citizens of
this coanty who are opposed to this
bill shall meet at their respective
precincts on the last Saturday in
July (the 26th) and sign a protest
to the legislature against the enact¬
ment of this bill; then let them get

a pleasant visit both to Mt Laurel
and Mt. Laurel Farm,
Mr. Wren Dunlap and Miss
Mamie Kirkpatrick spent last
weekend at Mt. Laurel Farm.
Mrs R, H. White aud Miss Mar¬
garet White aie expected home in
a few days after a two week’s stay
in Atlanta. Miss Margaret will
go to Highlands, N, C., with'a
party next Monday.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick and Mr, Dick
Goodhart are guests at Mt Laurel
Farm.
Mr. R, H, White, who is now
in Few York, is expected at Mt.
Laurel, in a few days.
NOTICE
It is my purpose, uulesn otherwise con¬
vinced, to introduce at the present ses¬
sion of the. General Assembly a bill
authorizing the Commissioners of Roads
and Revenues of White County to levy
a special tax for the purpose of laying
out, building and improving the public
roads of said county. 1

some reliable citizen to take these
to the legislature and thus show
that we do not want such a law.
We should pay the exjtenses of the
person taking these protests. I
think any good citizen will gladly
give his time if his expenses are
paid.
If anyone can suggest a better
plan I will “fall in” and do all I
can to protect us against such an
unjust law.
1 earnestly hope the people will
wake up to the importance of stop¬
ping this proposed law before it is
too late.

Mrs. Collins has been visiting

Educational Rally.
Sunday afternoon, July 20th, at
3 :jo o’clock, the trustees of Cleve¬
land High School, together with
others, are going to conduct an edu
cational rally at the school audi¬
torium. Col. J. W. H. Underwood
will preside and talk along edu¬
cational lines will be delivered by
Col. T. F. Underwood, Col, A. II.
Henderson, Jr,, and Col. C. II.
Edwards, after which Prof. C. T.
Edwards will outline plans for
making the Cleveland High School
a standard eleven grade high school
Everyone who is interested in the
progress of education and in
making Cleveland High School a
first class school is requested to be
present.
