CRAWLEY DEATH
DECREES STAND
A decision by the Supreme
Cou't ‘Thursday confirmed the sen¬
tences of George and Decatur
Crawley to bang and Rosa Craw¬
ley and Blaine Stewart to life im¬
prisonment. All four were impli¬
cated in the murder of Benjamin F.
Dixon; a deputy United States
marshal, in Union county, in April
1919, which was followed by' a
sensational chase through the
mountains of Georgia and Tennes¬
see, until the Crawleys were cap¬
tured three weeks after the mur¬
der.
Judge Atkinson dissented from
the majority of the court in the
opinion that a new trial should not
he granted the three men. In re¬
gard to Rosa Crawley, a sister of
George rmd Decatur and a cousin
of Stewart, the court was evenly
divided, and her sentence of life
imprisonment automatically stands.

BIG DOUBLE CIRCUS
COMiNG THIS WAY
This locality has entertained
many circuses, hut never anything
to compare with the gigantic dou¬
ble shows hilled as Ringling Bros,
and Barnum X Bailey Combined,
which will exhibit afternoon and
night at Atlanta, Monday, Oct. lS
and Gainesville, Tuesday, Oct. 19.
The merging of these mammoth in¬
stitutions in one circus of colossal
size,constitutes the amusement sur¬
prise of the century. Nothing to
approoch this gigantic new circus
has ever before toured America. It
has beeu formed by merging the
cream of all that was biggest and
best in the two famous shows. It
would he folly to try to enumerate
its many wonders. Some idea of
the enormous scale upon which
features are presented may be had
when it is stated that a quarter of
a million pounds of elephants take
part in a single act. In other
words, six times as many of the big
eared giants that have ever before
been seen in one main-tent exhibi¬
tion. All else to be seen is in pro¬
portion. The arenrc stars embrace
all the world’s foremost circus per¬
formers. There are three hours of
novelties and big sensational acts.
Tl.e tnenagery is far and away the
most colossal ever traveled. For
instance, a herd of eight giraffes
are exhibited in place of the two or
three shown in the past. The great
tournament which opens the main
tent program is the most magnifi¬
cent thing in pageantry yet pro¬
duced in America.
