AIR MAIL ROUTES
PROPOSED BY NEW
WOULD INCLUDE BIRMINGHAM,
NASHVILLE AND LOUISVILLE
ON ONE OF THE ROUTES
REGULATIONS ARE APPROVED
Inauguration Of Overnight Air Service
Between New York And Chicago
Will Be The First Step
Washington.—Opening of a number
of new air mail routes—probably this
summer—linking some of the more im¬
portant cities, is being considered by
Postmaster General New under au¬
thority of a law passed by the last
congress.
Regulations under which contracts
will be let for extensions have been,
approved by postal officials and will
be issued shortly.
Inauguration of an overnight air
mail between New York and Chicago,
which is a major item in the pro¬
gram, will be within a month or so,
the first step in the expansion of the
air mail service.
With the beginning of the new fiscal
year July 1, funds will become avail¬
able under which contracts can be
made for carrying mail by airplanes
or airships on any routes selected and
numerous organizations already have
asked for extension of the service to
their cities. Only such routes as post
office officials believe can be operated
without loss to contractors, however,j
will be considered in the opening up
of these new avenues of communica¬
tion.
Extensions now under consideration
include routes between:
New York and Boston; Chicago and
St. Louis; Los Angeles and Salt Lake
City; Elko, New., and Pasco, Wash.;
Minneapolis, St. Paul and New Or¬
leans, via St. Louis, and Memphis;
Pittsburg and New Orleans, and Chi¬
cago and New Orleans, via Indianap¬
olis, Louisville, Nashville and Bir¬
mingham.
The New York-Boston route prob¬
ably will be arranged to make con¬
nections with the trans - continental
service, and the new Chicago - New
York night service. The Chicago-St.
[Louis service likewise would be a feed¬
er of the overnight New York-Chicago
service. The Los Angeles - Salt Lake
City and the Elko-Pasco routes would
connect with the transcontinental serv¬
ice.
The Elko-Pasco route would serve
the cities of the Northwest, the air
mail being handled to and from PaBco
by the railway mall service for Port¬
land, Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane, at
a considerable saving of time over the
present practice of sending it to San
Francisco for air relay.
Tho routes between New Orleans
and the Northern cities would operate
independent of the trana - continental
service.
In working out its plans, the post
office department haB taken the posi¬
tion that development of air service
commercially should not be undertaken
at the expense of the government,
but should be sustained through reve¬
nues from mall, express and passen¬
gers. Under the new law contractors
carrying air mall may be paid up to
four-fifths of the amount received in
postage and are permitted to carry
express and passengers In addition.
If these contractors can develop a
profitable business, Paul Henderson,
second assistant postmaster general,
believes a nation - wide commercial
aeronautical service will soon grow out
of the experiment, giving the nation
at the same time a large reserve for
national defense, not only in airplanes
and pilots but in people trained to
build, operate and maintain them.

ed back to the Arkansas capital by
automobile with their prisoner. Con¬
firmation of the report of Mrs. Green’s
capture is withheld until arrival of the
Arkansas officers.
Jerusalem Crowds Throngs To Church
Jerusalem.—Several American Cath¬
olic bishops, Protestant pastors and
Jewish rabbis figured prominently in
faster services in Jerusalem. The
city was crowded with more pilgrims
than at any service since pre-war days.
Under a hot sun. throngs poured all
day past the Jaffa gate, through the
narrow streets to the Church of the

religions and sects fought for stand¬
ing room around the tomb of Christ.

LIFE IN THE EARLY CHURCH
LE8SON TEXT—Acta 4:31-5:11.
GOLDEN TEXT—‘The multitude of
them that believed ware of one heart
and of one soul.”—Acts 4:32.
PRIMARY TOPIC—A Story About
Giving.
JUNIOR TOPIC—How the First
Christians Loved One Another.
INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR TOP¬
IC—How the Early Christians Lived
Together.
YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULT TOP¬
IC—Lesson From the Early Church.
1. Characteristics of the Primitive
Church (vv. 31-35).
1. It Was a Praying Church (v. 31).
These early Christians for every
want and every need betook them¬
selves to God In prayer.
2. It Was a Spirit-filled Church (v.
31).
When they prayed, the place was
shaken wherein they were gatheted
together, and they were all filled with
the Holy Spirit.
3. It Was a Church Which Had
Great Boldness in Preaching the Word
of God (v. 31).
The ministers of a Spirit-filled
church will not offer any apology for
the Bible, but will expend all their
energy In fearlessly preaching it
4. It Was a United Church (v. 32).
They were all of one heart and one
soul. This shows that they had a
unity of feeling and purpose.
5. It Was a Charitable and Gener¬
ous Church (v. 32).
They held nothing back from those
who had need. As. needs arose, sup¬
plies were given from a common fund.
(5. Its Ministers Had a Powerful
Testimony (v. 88).
This shows that there must be a
personal experience before there cun
be a powerful testimony.
7. It Was a Church Whose Mem¬
bership Exhibited Unblemished Char¬
acter (v. 33).
Great grace was upon them ail.
II. Barnabas’ Generous Act (vv.
30-37).
He sold a piece of land and turned
over all the proceeds thereof to be
used for the help of those in need, it
should tie borne In mind, however,
that it is not said that Barnabas sold
all the land he had.
III. The Sanctity of the Church Vln
dicatid (5:1-11).
This new community is now for the
first time called the church. The men
tlon of the church in Acts 2:47 is spu
rious. They now have broken with
Judaism so that their success depends
upon their being recognized. Since
tliis new' community superseded the
old, God was to make His dwelling
place among them—the very sacred
ness of the tabernacle and temple-was
transferred to them. This lesson, the
church itself must learn as well as
the Jewlsli mass surrounding it. The
sacredness of God’s dwelling place
men are slow to learn. Moses did not
tnke off his shoes until bidden by the
Lord. Nadab und Abilin must be
stricken down in the beginning of the
Mosaic economy for their presump¬
tuous offering of strange fire before
the Lord. Aehan was put to death
for secreting a part of the booty soon
after entering the promised land. So
at the beginning of the church, this
warning was needed on the part of the
church to prevent the hypocrisy of
double service.
1. The Occasion Which Brought
This Dreadful Judgment on Ananias
and Sapphire (vv. 1-4).
It was their hypocritical imitation of
the generous act of Barnabas. He aud
his wife conspired together In this
defiance of God. They wanted the
honor without paying the price. The
same love of praise is causing many
in the church today to imitate their
dreadful mistake. I’eter told them
they had not lied to men, but to God.
So far as we know Ananias did not
speak a word, but his actions spoke
louder than his words. Such actions
could only be accounted for by the fact
that Satan filled their hearts. But
that did not excuse them. They were
responsible for allowing Satan a place
in their hearts. We should learn from
this that God and mammon cannot.be
served at the same time. People to¬
day are walking in the way of Ana¬
nias when they sit down at the Lord’s
table with unregenerate hearts.
2. The Judgment Which Fell (vv. 5-
10).
Both Ananias and Sapphire fell
down dead and the young men carried
them away for burial.
3. Great Fear Came Upon the
Church (v. 11).
This vindication caused the people
to know that God was with them, and
it also kept the hypocrites from join¬
ing with them (v. 13). Let us be
ware!
Presistence of Life
Strange, isn’t it. that marvelous per
si.steace of life! But that is a way
that life has. We speak of it some
times as very fleeting and trausitorv,
and’vet there are so many things
about us, after all, that are very hard
to kill.
Tears Shall Come No More
God washes the eyes by tears until
they can behold the invisible land,
where tears shall come no more.—H.
W. Beecher.
Lift Off-No Pain!
Doesn’t hurt one bit! Drop a little
‘Freezone” on an aching com, instant¬
ly that com stops hurting, then short¬
ly you lift it right off with fingers.
Your druggist sells a tiny bottle of
“Freezone” for a few cents, sufficient to
remove every hard corn, soft com, or
com between the toes, and the foot
calluses, without soreness or irritation.
Take Inventory of Life
Once a day, especially in the early
years of life and study, call yourself to
an account what new ideas, what new
propositions of truth you have gained.
Rice Griddle Cakes

2 level teaspoons Calumet Baking

1 cup well cooked rice
