SUFFERED MANY YEARS
WITH FEMALE TROUBLE
LIKE PE-RU-N A GIFT A
FROM HEAVEN
Mrs. Katie Scheffel,
3R. F. D. No. 5. Lowell, Ohio
<f I have been suffering for years
•with 4 female trouble. Was operated
on five years ago. It relieved me
some but I did not regain my
strength. Two years later was
taken sick and bedfast several
months. I treated a long while
without much relief. I was dis¬
couraged, my mind affected, so
nervous I could neither eat or
sleep and unable to do anything.
We tried several doctors but
one after another gave up my case
as hopeless. Finally a good friend
advised me to try Pe-ru-na. I did.
It relieved me almost immediately.
Your medical department said I
was suffering from chronic catarrh
of the system. I began taking your
medicine in March, 1914, and con¬
tinued until August. I took ten
bottles of Pe-ru-na and three bot¬
tles of Man-a-lin and felt like a
new person. Your medicine seemed
like a gift from Heaven. It was
like coming from darkness into
light.
We have used your medicine
since _ for coughs, colds and grip
with good results. We will always
keep it on hand. I weigh twenty
five pounds more than I ever did,
eat and sleep well and can do a
good day’s work. Everybody says
I look fine. Even the doctors are
surprised. I cannot thank you
enough and will always recommend
Pe-ru—na to sufferers from
catarrh.”
MRS. KATIE SCHEFFEL
R F. D. No. S, Lowell, O.
Mrs. Scheffel is only one of
many thousand women in the
world, who owe their present health
to Pe-ru-na. The record of this
medicine is a proud one as Pe-ru
na has held the confidence of both
sexes for fifty years or more.

gan or part of the body, do like*

happy and contented we are.
They sang after they had said this
to prove that they were very, very
happy.
They were very pretty and bright,
gay, yellow in color, and ’ most of
them had lovely voices.
“Of course,” said the blue solitaire
bird, “I am the finest singer.
“I don’t like to boast, but that is
the truth. The keeper says so.
“Rut please, dear bird friends,” he
continued, “don’t think I am con¬
ceited.
"I only want to show that I like the
big bird house here, and that I am
very happy—so I prove it by singing
and singing my best."
“Your best is very line,” said tfie
Virginia Cardinal \bird.
“Thank you, thank you,” said the
solitaire bird. “Ah, how good the
keeper is.
“He knows that when I am free I
like fruit and wild berries, and he
gives me bits of these here just as 1
would take them if I were free.
“He gives me delicious little tastes
of bfinanas, too,”
“Ah, woe is me, I’m sad,” said the
Scarlet Tanager bird.
“What’s the trouble?" asked the
Virginia Cardinal.
“I always lose my gorgeous red
coloring in the zoo. I fade and am
not nearly so bright and gay and bril¬
liant; as I would he if I were tree.
“It would appear as though I did
not like the zoo. But I do.
“It’s just that I must he flying
in the big world in all the sunshine
and having lots of room and exercise
in order to keep tny coloring.
“I am not really scarlet any more.”
“Oh, yes, you are,” said the Vir¬
ginia Cardinal. “You aren’t as scar¬
let as you were, but you are still very,
very lovely.”
“Thank you kindly,” said the Scar¬
let Tanager, and then added:
“Well, you’re a nice, friendly bird,
and the keeper says he loves his dear,
tame Virginia Cardinal with his
bright and Intelligent eyes."
So every bird in the bird house of
tlie zoo felt happy.
But outside, iu another bird cage
and yard, sat tlie vultures. They
were thinking.
“it doesn’t matter,” thought the
Black Vulture, “what the other vul¬
tures think.
“They don’t Interest me. I like to
hunt. I like to eat, and tlie more
the better I like
it. I will eat
tlie most horrible
of food and enjoy
it.
“A nice killed
chicken I also
enjoy among
other tilings. I
haven’t a silly,
fussy appetite.”
“Neither have
I,” thought the
King Vulture, lie
was thinking that
he was like the
black vulture,
only greater, and
he was tlie only
vulture that
possibly have been called handsome.
He was quite satisfied" with himself.
“It is because I am a king,"
thought King Vulture. “I am a hor¬
rible sort of a king of horrible birds,
and we fly in the air so we can do
our horrible deeds with more ease.
“When people come to the zoo and
look at my fine crown I often wish
I could say to them: ‘Oh, people, you
may think I have a bad face, but 1
aai a king vulture just the same.’ ”

One day he heaved a great sigh and

Just Looked Big
“Johnny,” said the father of a pre¬
cocious five-year-old at the dinner
table, “don’t you think that is a
pretty big piece of cake for a boy of
your size?”
“It looks big, papa," replied Johnny,
but it’s sponge cake and nearly all

“I have become

the paroquet.

Government May Take
Over Mammoth Cave
About 1825 Dr. John Croghan of
Mulberry Hill, near Louisville, Ivy.,
prowled about in Mammoth cave for
a few miles, and was so much im¬
pressed with it that he bought it—
purchased a tract measuring about six
miles by four, threaded by almost 200
miles of cave.
In 1840 Croghan willed the property
to a family of nine heirs, adding the
proviso that, upon the death of t he last
of the nine, the caverns, should be sold
at public auction, the sale to be ad¬
vertised in London, New York, Boston,
Washington, Louisville and New Or¬
leans. Eight of • the heirs are now
dead. Tlie ninth has reached the age
of ninety. The last surviving heir Is
the wife of Judge Albert; Covington
.Tallin of Silver Springs, Md., who is
the manager of the old cave property.
It is more than likely that the fed¬
eral government will be the purchaser
of the property. Congress lias al¬
ready authorized a survey of it to¬
ward tbat^end.

DR. W. 8. CALDWELL
AT THE AGE OF 83
While Dr. W. B. Caldwell, of Mon
ticeilo, 111., a practicing physician for
47 years, knew that constipation was
the curse of advancing age, he did not
believe that a “purge” or “physic”
every little while was necessary.
To him, it seemed cruel that so
many constipated old people had to
be kept constantly “stirred up” and
half sick by taking cathartic pills, tab¬
lets, salts, calomel and nasty oils.
In Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin he
discovered a laxative which helps to
“regulate” the bowels of old folks.
