Mr. Linton Adams lias bought
lightning rods for his house. The
people formally were afraid ot
thunder but lightning is what they
dread now.
The month of June has been very
cold so fai and is generally follow¬
ed by rain.
All of the candidates are good
clever fellows, but we can’t vote
for all of them. They are -een
here daily and certainly know how
to shake hands. There is not a
single one but who would make
a good Fax Collector. l ime is
\ery short and let us make up our
minds and do the best we can for
them all.
Talk about your blackberry jam,
strawberry jelly and apple dump¬
lings, but give its, Oh! give us
plenty, p'euty of corn bread and
milk and butter. You will grow
tired of all things but the last men¬
tioned. There was a time when
the cow had plenty ot free range
and returned home at night with a
flowing udder. W hen the cow
did not come home in the eveving
when you were a boy you would
plow all day and then walk six
miles at trip;lit to hunt her. Hoys
do not get tired like older people.
W hen you went a fishing and fail
ed to get any fish you returned
with a load of oak bark. They
would Tack some old fashioned
yeast bread and with plenty of
fresh butter and milk were too
good for a king.
