Tile fit-t Apr!! showers ratine on

accompanied by some storms.
Mr. aiui Mr.-. Hoy! Elliott spent
Sunday with their parents.
Miss Belle and Andy Westmore¬
land spent the weekend up in (lie
Cherokee National Forest with
t heir brother.
Several have been driving their
cattle lo range lately.
Senator Harris was well and
favorably known. He had a most
wondetful gift to remember faces.
Most politicians possess this gift
but he possessed it in a very high
degree.
Mr. Robert Elliot tells that lie is
still working in the gold mines. In
former days this was the occupa¬
tion of many, but now only a few
know how to hunt the precious
metal.
When (he ground gets dry again
the planting will hurry up.
Fire is like electricity is a bless¬
ing when not controlled. Fire
broke out in the Cherokee Nation¬
al Forest on Mt. Vonali hist week
and raged for about three d t \ - be¬
fore it was checked. It lias been
about ten years since it was burned
off. It was very dry and the wind
was raging. Mr. Woody. Woody
Gap, was seen going that way Fri¬
ll y and told that they were having
a “hell of a fire,” 1'he damage to
timber can not be estimated, be¬
sides killing 40 million Hazards, 2
million snakes, 20 bumble bees,
millions of wild shubbtty. Il kill¬
ed over 30 million codling moth
and a host of bollweeviIs. d hey
fought like heroes. Mr. RoeCanup
burned ufl his bloomers. Mi. Luns¬
ford scorched his mustache audMr.
Woody lost his long beard that
reached to his waistband.
Two men from 1.1 burton diovt
up last. Monday week. It wm
thought they might be lightning
rod agents, but told they were hunt¬
ing a radio.
People should not be loo quick
to shoot crows. They do more
good tliam harm, They sometimes
pull up corn when they have nest¬
lings and they have been known to
carry away eggs and chickens. But
they sure can worry a hawk and il
tears them.
The slogan now seems to bejback
back ro the Farm. IT 1 e people
moved to (he cities several years
ago to find a job and to give their
children the educational advantage-,
but today the v heels are not mov¬
ing and I he means of getting an
education is betler (ban, formally.
There may not be much cash in
farming but there is something to
cat, cement and employment.

SO THEY SAY
[>y 1.0. I . Mo ref ha rt
Planting crops are the eider of
the day through this seel ion, and
the weather conditions have been
ideal for planting. At Iasi it has
occurred to folks who is the far¬
mer. It is not the man that sits
around the city and owns some
farms out in the. country, nor the
man that writes big lengthy articles
in some farm journal about fann¬
ing, but he is the. man that really
has his tinkles sawed with briars,
and is dressed up when he puts on
new overalls, anil now the govern¬
ment has undertaken to help them
helping them get fertilizer, etc,
There seems to be right smart of
sickness ab ait through the county.
Soon be time for picnics, In
fact they are beginning to start al¬
ready, then later comes protracted
meetings, then campmeetmgs, then
corn shuckings, cotton pickings,
candy drawings, hog killing time.
So we have all these good times to
took forward to instead of looking
for spring storms, earth quakes,
revenue, officers, mad dogs and
tater bugs.
Well, well, there is something
«vc have never found out yet, .Off!
1 whole lot of tilings, but what we
were about to say is concerning
fishing. Oi course the law says
there are times 1 bat we may not
iisli. Now the way the little dab
of try to think stuff in our knotty
cranium figures it out it we bait a
hook and drop it in the water and
t fish gets 1 he bait, and we don’t
get the fish it looks like we hadn’t
.v rouged anything, except the
worm, Weil, that’s our way ot
fishing, of course it is always has
been.
