Mr. H. A-Jarrard Dies
Mr. II. A Jarrard, 76, died at
his home in Cleveland Monday
morning around 8 -.30 following an
illness of n long period, hut luid
been confined to bed for only a few
days. It might be termed, that
Mr farrurd died “on the job.’’ He
was alwas on the job to everything

He was particularly instrument¬
al in furthering tlie development ol
White county. Cleveland, schools,
highways, Sunday School and
church.
lie was among the oldest resi¬
dents of Cleveland having been en
gaged in the inercanti'e business
here for over 50 years. He has
served as Chairm m of tiie County
Board of Education, Ch finnan of
'lie Local Board of Education,
Chairman of the County Gumma
sinners, Vfice President of the Go
County Commissioners Associa
tioo. His interest in highway de
velopment is well known in alt
North Georgia and Western N. C,
as he was on hand at every good
meeting. He was active in the or
gmz.it ion of the Appalachian
S euic Highway Association and
was deeply interested in all motor
c ides cainii g through this section.
His interest in White county’s
development can hardly be excell¬
ed. He was very influential in
the organization and eariy opeia
tion of the Gainesville & North
western Railroad.
He Ins been Chairman of the
Bs ard of Stewards of the Met ho
dist church for a number of years,
and was active in the North Gjor
gin Conference. The visiting
preacher’s always made Mr. Jar
rard’s home headquarters.
lie was directly instrumental in
organizing the White county and
the Farmer’s .aid Merchants Banks
and supervised tiie construction of
boll) buildings.
His first marriage was to Miss
Carrie E. Bell, si&tcr of formet
Congressman Bell, who preceederi
him to the grave twe’ ve years ago.

Deviled Eggs, Tomato Sauce:
Hard cook st¬ s, remove shells
and cut in h: lengthwise. Re¬
move yolks season highly
with butter, s. 'epper, paprika,
mustard and 'n juice. Add
mayonnaise to moisten and stir
urpil creamy. Refill whites and
place tiie deviled eggs in indi¬
vidual shallow baking dishes or
in a glass pie plate or shallow
baking dish. Pour contents of
one lOkt-ounce can tomato soup
around the eggs, leaving flie yolks
uncovered. Sprinkle with but¬
tered crumbs and place In a hot.
oven until the soup is bubbling
and the crumbs brown. Serves

one-fourth cup chopped walnuts,
three-fourths cup shredded crisp
lettuce and one-ffturth enp mayon¬
naise and mix lightly together.*
