Mr, and Mrs. Ellington, nfPort
land, Oregon, have been seeing
Georgia. In speaking of thisState,
Mr. Ellington said, “The name of
Henry Grady is honored and rever¬
ed throughout the West, because
of the brilliancy of his intellect and
his patriotic utterances. We ex¬
pect to visit his monument on
Marietta Street, Atlanta, while in
Georgia, We tire Republicans,but
earnest supporters of Franklin D.
Roooseveit During his adminis¬
tration he remembered 1 he poor,
forgotten man ; lias given consider¬
ation to the average man ; lias fed
the hungry and unemployed man
and has made provisions for taking
care of the old man. When we
sp;ak of man, that also includes
women. The surprising thing is
the opposition to him of Georgia’s
own Governor Talmadge. People
outside of this state Cannot under¬
stand how he can so bitterly op¬
pose t he Prresident, who is more
than aDemocrat. He is a states¬
man, an American, and the great
est humnmtan at the head of any
government at tHe head of any
government on earth. It is be¬
cause he is more and greater than a
Rebublican, that we and thousand;
of others whe are called Republi¬
cans, are supporters of the Presi
dent.”— Passing Through Geor¬

the Bank Management Commission of
the American Bankers Association
plans are described tor carrying on tilt
simplification o£ bank cheeks, notes
drafts and similar instruments in re
spect to size and uniformity of arrange
ment of subject matter.
Detailed recommendations for this
end were formulated by the associa
tion about ten years ago, the bulletin
says, and promulgated by the United
States Department ol Commerce among
banks, business houses using large
numbers of checks, commercial station
ers and lithographers. As a result about
85 per cent adherence to the recom
mendations was brought about. The
present bulletin, which describes the
standard specifications in full, is issued
to maintain this high level of adher
ence to the recommendations.
dared that many of the changes pro¬
posed by the act in existing laws “are
of a constructive nature and should
have the support of bankers, if the
method of appointment and the tenure
of office of the members of the Federal
Reserve Board, in whose bands it is
planned to concentrate greater power
than ever before, could be so altered as
to insure, as far as possible, the abso¬
lute independence of the Board from
partisan or political considerations."
