Small Sawmills Feat*
Etfttor Constitution • I have
baeu reading your editorials every
day and commend yon for your
opfoivand broad views on our nn
tiontil ailU'ttioU,
I am one hundred per cent, for
our great President. but some oi
the proposed changes in the eco¬
nomic taws are against the small
businessman in the south. Our
gre.( President has been tnisiu
informad as to the ©fleet the pro¬
posed wyge nod hour Saw will
have on the southern bttsin^sstaea,
especially the small manufacturer.
One of the gteat enterprises of
the south today is the small lum¬
ber mids. At the present price of
lumber this law, if put into effect,
will close down wearlA' every saw¬
mill portable mills Every section
of the country has many of these
small mills employing from lO to
50 men. but should the wage an
’hour law be passed, in its present
form, 1 wiil wager that 75 t lefr
cent of all .mill* will be forced to
close down.
If the uoilli asserts itself against
the south in this wage and hour
law and forces it on the southern
people, we. will lose our small
manufacturers and have atf over
whelming number of unemployed
men and women for Uncle fSm« to
take under his wing.
As to the lumber business, l
have been in clese tttuch with tin
manufacturers of this product loi
man# years and kuow that if they
are forced to comply with the
proposed law, that hundreds ot
men now making a living will be
thrown back on relief, and non • oi
our people want to do thru. T ,e y
want a chance to make a fait liv¬
ing for themselves. II you kiti
