The Congressional race will soon begin
to take on deep interest.. And from what
we are able to determine it will shortly
show dr finate signs of centering on two
candidates.
There are indications that it. may devel
op into a lug of war over the west side of
the district against the east. Should this
develop then a determined tight will b
waged on who is the strongest candidal
on the east, side.
Our own candlidate, Clifford Blalock,
holds a vantage point at this stage over
the other candidates on the east side be¬
cause he has never been in polities before
and will not have political factions em
bittaied against him. All of the other can¬
didates on the east side of the district
have served in the Georgia Legislature
and no doubt have voted for questions
that some of the voters are bitter against.
So, then, it is easy to see just how
Cliff can gain the lead and hold it as the
leading candidate on the east side.
Blalock will have a platform that will
appeal to the voters and when he gets on
the stump the voters will rally to his
banner for none of the candidates can
surpass him as sn appealing orator.
Watch the Blalock bandwagon begin to
roll.

H-Bomb Could
Free A-Stocks
For Civilian Use
Detroit,—(AP)— Chairman Gordon Dean
of the Atomic Energy Commission said
Monday that perfection ofthe hytliogon
bomb would help release fissionable,
materials for peacetime uses
•■If explosive energy can be derived from
the fission of hydrogen." he said, "then
a corresponding quantity” of plutonium
and uranium—principal ingredients o,
the atomic bomb—Would .be fieed for
such peacetime uses as the production of
power
Dean listed this as "one clear break
that atomic power development, will get
because of the international situation ”
Anil, he said in an address to the F.co
n >mic Club of Detroit:
"What all this will mean in terms of
bringing peace and prosperity anil free
dom to this tormented globe of ours I am
not, prepared to say.
"In my view it certainly will not set
us back ”
He listed 3 principal objectives of pre¬
sent atomic planning:
1. To make tbe stockpile of fissionable
materials trigger, mostly for peacetime
uses
2. To develop the hydrogen bomb.
3. “To develop ways by whitfir we can
translate the latent power that exists in
our stockpile of fissionable materials L to
terms of maximum military usefulness ”
