Died, on Thurfday, the s'h inftant, at the feat of govern merit, W3pt Andrew Elton If ells y of the Bulloch county battalion of militia, a young man in the bloom of life, and umverfally lefpetled by all who knew him,; as well in the private as public: walks of fociety. _ 'j His merits may be eflimated by the confidence placed in hifn by his country —For altho' he was barely 24 years of age, he was railed to the command of the militia of the county he belonged to—and had been defied twice to the legiflaturc, and once to a general conven tion, as its reprefentative. He was cn the duties of his Ration as a member of the houfe of representatives, when he was feiz-d with the difeaie, which put a period to the cxiftence of his amiable youth. The legiflaturc having finifbed ! he bufinefs of the feßion, and, lieing about to adjourn when his leath happened, appointed a efpeftable committee of both iranrhes, to fuperintend his uncral—And his Excellency governor Jackfon, to pay his emains every mark of refpeft, ndered the Louifvillc Artillery, mder capt. Shelman, to attend md fire minute guns to the num } r r, f h' s years of age, during he proceflion, which took place n the following order : Ihe Cor P s «/ Artillery, with a field piece in front, and mufic. rk Field Officers of the Jefferfon f £imnt, with j words reverled * Secretary of Stale, an Purveyor General . \ m Governor, f mr d reverfed. r Me Carnes, and Dr. Pug/ley. r® Mr< ’’ s - 7 Pall Bearers . l ranimond 3- r* 1 kaic* u [? He obferves, that Luther Baldwin has been fined one hundred and fifty dollars, only for aflerting that he did not care what befrl a certain part of the Prefident—while thofe pretended fcdcraliffs are daily damning the Vice-Presi dent, and poßmg him up to ridicule and contempt, in every barber's fhop! and that if the laft mentioned indignity was offered John Adams in- Read of 1 homas Jefferfon, the pretended f» lends to good order would tear the print from the wall, horfe-whip every perfon concerned in the execution of it, and kick the barber who poßed it up, head-long out of his fhop. The above obfervalions are but 100 true. Thole very per fons who contend for the honor and dignity of government with fo much zeal, Can behold with pleafure a n d app obation an in tuit offeied to any portion or branch of that beloved govern ment, if filled by men who can not think exaftly like themfelvcs. Eveiy calumny and abufive in vedive ha? been poured forth againlt that friend of his coun try, who drafted our declaration of independence. He and the republicanmembersofCongiefs, with perhaps a very large major ity of the people of the United States, have been acculed ot compofing a French faction in this countiy, highly dangerous to our government and conßitu rion. No one, but a knave and a fool, will pretend to believe that there exifls in this country a French fadion dangerous lo our government and conßitution! Put that our conßitution is in danger of being deftroyed by Britifli influence, is not lo in vifible. To fee that there was a fee of tyrants in this country who wifh to crufh republican principles under feet, and grind the poor under the chariot wheels of the great, would he no novelty among us in thefe days —but that the well-born had a right to adaflinate a poor man, and then be admitted to bail, we had not learnt until lately. li'aiwi iin. , The SUBSCRIBER Bet»s leave to inform hit Friend* and the { Public, that lie has taken into enpart ncrihip JOHN P.
