will be protraclen in die fame I way until the beginning of May next. 1 A member has fix dollars carh dav during his attendance, be fides mileage or a certain fum per mile traveling expences; fappofmg the whole of the mem bers to pay ten dollars a week for board and lodging, and that each fpends on wine, cards, See, ten more, each member will then pocket a clear fum of twenty-two dollars a week! Calculating the feflion at twenty weeks, each member will then clear, after living in the full ftvle of plenty and luxury, 440 dollars for the feflion, bc fide all his travelling expences paid. But if we confidcr the pro verbial economy of the New England men, and we can name thole among them who board and lodge at 5 and 4 dollars, what (hall we fay on this pro* pofed augmentation of the pub lic compcnfation ? Taking them at five on an average, and allow ing a few cents for cards, and other indulgencies !—fay two dol. lars a week ; then will each mem ber fave out of his prefent falary thirty five dollars a week, or 700 dollars for the ftflion. This is not an idle hypothefis, we know that a member of Con grefs (and we fpeak it to his prai(e) has purchafed a very handlomeeflatein Maflachufetts out of his Cdngreflional wages; if he has fuftained ahftincrice and o.her depiivations to effeft this laudable economy, no doubt it will juftify him in voting for the addition to the allowance. We expett indeed, that when the quefiion comes to a vote, to I find all the economical members I from the eaft voting in its favor, I and the free living members I from the feuth who have nothing, I voting againft the augmentation, I The occurrence will be to be I fure a curious one—-and everv I one who witneffes the event will I do well to remember that economy I ms recommended by the Prefi- I dent at the opening of the feflion I "~ and that we now predift what I 'vili happen— if the alarm (hou'd I not be taken from thele hints, ITn mc3^urc be fent to I j in the tomb of the Capu- SHERIFF’S SALES, ibc FIRST TUESDAY in April .
