Honor to (Lo Gallant Tara.
While the name of Iho bravo Dew¬
ey is on the lips of the world the gal¬
lant gunners who did the real work
in .Manila harbor must not be forgot¬
ten. Their names are not cabled
under the seas or sent flying around
the world, but every man that stood
by the guns ahd executed the admi¬
ral's orders in that historic light has
a noble shave in the honor of the
victory. No braver men or better
fighters sail the seven seas than the
gallant Yankee tars. The deserved
words of praise licapod upon the
eommandms aro an implied honor to
the heroes who risk or give their
lives to execute their orders,
It is the faithfulness -f the grimy
gunners and of the skilled seamen
that gives strength to the admiral’s
arm. These men am tho
hands and swift feet ‘hat put into
heroic deeds tha great thoughts of
tliose who command. Without hands
ami foot tho brain is powerless,
W it bout (ho obscure hut heroic satl-
or-Fohlicrs whose individual names
must largely remain unknown the
bravest of commanders would have
been helpless in Manila harbor.—Chi¬
