A Letter- From Texas:
Dfi-AR Monitor:— rfere nm I as
most ot you readers know,, vvay <>nt
in the “Wooly West - ” I enjoy read¬
.
ing y < J'¥ letters from different- places
in the county, moreso now than I
ever did. I concluded that some of
you all would like to hear from me,
my experiece while oh my journey;
and since my arrival here.
1 had a'very pleasant trip indeed*
and made close connections both at.
Montgomery and New Orleans. It
was night when I arrived at the for¬
mer place and so I could see but very
little of tho town. I whiled away
most of my time at‘the .depot. It
"Seemed, there, a| if. people never
th ought of anything like sleep; every¬
thing was in such a hustle that you
could hardly hear your own. ears-
It was night while traveling through
Mississppi, 8nd consequently I can¬
not give you any description of the
country.
I reached New Orleans at seven:
thirty, Thursday, a. m. and had to
wait two hours before they would
take me- across the “Father of Wa-
ters.” (Mississppi.) . While -waiting
I spent most of my time watching
tha river and the lev.. . boats the’,
were on j t> j Jj a( j a chance to see a
fisherman pull out one of its fish, but-
it was not like the ones which we
catch there in those creeks at home.
I was tansferrei across the river
nine; thirty and found a

price. Everything is 'nest
to me and it hikes what' lictla spai'e
time I have watol)ir.g the sightfe, arid
electric cars are something new to
one who has been used to oxcarts an d
broken down wagons. The bayou
which extends up from Galveston
adds lots to tho town. Most all of
cotton is shipped that- way. Hous¬
ton will do very well until it rains
and then ono can hardly walk if they
got off the paved streets for every
thing is mud and is as slipperry as
ice. I have not seen it myself but.
tb-vsa who have been here longer than
I, say that in a real wet spell it takes
four horses to pull an empty wagon.
I want all tho fcpcrespondants of
the Monitor to keep writing as I en¬
joy reading all of their letters, and if
this does not find its way to the
waste basket I may write again some
day so the Monitor man will have
something to fill up his paper. With
best wishes to all the readers and
the Monitor man, I am yours very
truly,

War of the Future.
The Louisville Evening Post
thinks future wars will be con¬
ducted on an outline somewhat
after the following:
“If wo are to war hereafter it
must be a wa r so arranged that no
one can regret it.
“IPmust be a war in which no
one can be hurt and all wounds or
deaths being in violation of regn-
latlorm r- f. : - investigated by a
congressional committee.
“There must be an abundance
of food and it must be of tlio most
varied character.
“Water moat be /ipollinarie
.water, exclusively furnished in ice
bottles.
“Eggs must be ‘laid on the
table’ at every meal.
“Men must not be permitted to,
overtax themselves.
Guard duty must be performed
by some eccentric contrivance.
Soldiers rnuet all be kept within a
climate to which they have be. n
accustomed.
“All calnpaign'e must be arrang¬
ed after tho summer heat and be¬
fore the winter cold, and all rains
must, be forbidden.
“Transportation bj? sea must be
arranged only in a calm/ as sea •
