I have a .Jersey eow which I
hough I four years ago. when she
was three yeais old. and just, due
lo calve. From Max . 1875, to this
writing, she has been milked eve
i v day except for thirty days he
fore each ealving time. She i
now due toealve May 17, and yet
in milk, supplying an abundance
I'm a family often. I propose to
milk her up to l he day of ealving.
This will be her seventh calf. She
will be eight years old in August.
Although not a remarkably deep
milker, her average for t welve
months is beyond anything in my
experience.'-'At limes she has giv
en sixteen quarts daily, but not
often. With a call six months old
her llow of milk about equals
that of the first month, and she
never dries up. She is a tine spec
iinen of her race; larger than the
average, a squirrel grey, with
lleeks of while; with awhile
switch and tongue not black :
] >lolll i 111* 111 bones: huge barrel
and impossible to fatten.
While writing, from my win
llow I can set* her tethered on the
lawn, enjoying the full rich gras
ses, and answering to my call
w ith her huge black eyes and in
tclligenl lace. No wonder the
English prize her as an ornament
to their lawn a Jersey is fit for
a king. From a money stand
point, my Jersey is a prize. She
has paid hae k one halt' of her cost
in premiums ai lairs,never failing
to take one or more when exhi
bill'd. For the heifer calf she
first gave me I refused SHR>; two
hull calves were sold for slso, and
one heifer for #IOO. and I have an
oiler ot #IOO for her next, if a
lieiler. Besides these sales 1 have
sold milk to Ihe value ot's4oo; at'
ter supplying my own family
with all Ihev needed, and a large
portion ol butter consumed.
Counting the milk and butter
used as a fair ollset to the cost of
her feed, there is left a net profit
in tour ycats ol #*so. not to men
turn prizes taken And vet the
cow will not he eight years old
till August next.
Jersey > do remarkably well a
