CAMPAIGN FOR SALE OF
WAR SAVINGS STAMPS
IS T 0 BE REVIVED SCON
The war is over, but the big ball
which America wound up to win the
war must be unwound just as slow
ly and carefully and at just as great
a cost. The money which it took to
put- our boys in France and to pay
the other vast expenses of prosecut
ing the war, was not more necessary
than the sums it will take to bring
them back again and transfer the na
tion to a peace basis.
Therefore, it was announced here
today, the campaign for the sale of
War Savings Stamps and the re
demption of War Savings Stamps
pledges will be prosecuted more vig
orously than ever in Georgia. In
this connection, a plan, hard business
light to the situation was pointed out
which the people of Georgia will do
well to note.
«The government right this min
ute is deciding the question of wheth
er to raise the money it needs by
taxation or by trying to sell govern
ment securities,” said a leader of the
War Savings Stamps organization
today. ‘“The big moneyed inteersts
of the nation have shown that they
favor the latter method of buying up‘
wvery issue of Liberty Bonds. The
people now are answering in the mat
ter of War Savings Stamps. The man\
who buys them says, ‘T don’t want to}
be taxed. I want to help pay for this{
war by putting my money in govern-.
ment securities which will pay me
back dollar for dollar at a good rate‘
of interest.” The man who fails to
purchase War Savings Stamps is say
ing, ‘I do not like this method. I
prefer txaation, even if it takes my
savings for the next seven years.’
And as surely as the war is won, it
will take the savings of all the people
in America for the next seven years
if they vote for taxation instead of
purchasing the splendid securities in
War Savings Stamps that are offer
ed them.”

MR. LEON FREY DIES AT
' ATLANTA HOME
Mr. Leon Frey, 24 years old, died
at his home in Atlanta on Tuesday
morning. The funeral and interment
will be held this (Thursday) morning,
and will be attended by a number of
relatives from Marietta and Cobb
County.
Mrs. D. T. Baker and Mrs. Eliza
beth Frey were aunts of the deceas
ed, who once lived in Marietta.
The shortest, surest way to good
will is through sharing food with
those whose need is greater than
ours.
COLDS AND GRIPPE
YIELD TO CALOTABS
To break up a cold over might or
to cut short an attack of influenza or
grippe, physicians and druggists are
now recommending Calotabs, the new
nausealess calomel, that is purified
from all dangerous and sickening ef
fects. Those who have tried it say
that it acts like magic, by far more
effective and certain than the old
style calomel, heretofore recommend
ed by all physicians.
One Calotab on the tongue at bed
time with a swallow of water,—that’s
all. No salts, no nausea nor the
slichtest interference with eating,
work or pleasures. Next morning
your cold has vanished and your
whole system feels refreshed and
purified. Calotabs is sold only in ori
oinal sealed packages; price thirty
five cents. Recommended and guar
anteed by all druggists. Your mon
e,‘s back if you are not delighted.—

ITALIAN SYSTEM OF
- TIME ADOPTED BY
THE ENGLISH ARMY
The system of dividing the day
into twenty-four hours instead of in
ot two periods of twelve hours each
has been adopted by the inglish
army. Italy was the first country to
adopt this system, which has been in
use there since 1892,
The hours, or time of day, will
kereafter be designated by four num
bers, the first two denoting the hour
and the last two the minutes. The
fcllowing table gives the relation be
tween the old and new systems of
designating time: .

Midnight, under the new ‘system,
o 1 ght to be 000, or 2400, but to avoid
confusion the ciphers for the minate
before or after midnight will be used
t. designate midnight—that is, 2859
cr 0001,
The reform, known in England as
the “New Army Time Reckoning,”
may soon be adopted by the civilian
populations of England and of the Al
lied nations. It has proved extreme
1y successful in Italy.
One of the advantages of the new
s; stem is that there cannot be any
ccnfusion between the A. M. and
P M. hours as at present exists in
the system in use in the United
States. One cipher signifies one
hour, without any qualifying letters.
Ir Italy, nine o’clock can mean only
nire A. M.; nine P. M. there is call
ed the seventeenth hour. The sys
tem has been found especially valua
: Llle for use in dispatches where brev
ity and accuracy are essential.

THE MARIETTA JOURNAL
Everybody’s
MONDAY’S fireworks, horns and
glad shouts of the people pro
claimed the news we all wanted to
hear.
Everybody’s face bore a smile, for
we've all been waiting a long time for
these glad tidings and now that they
have come our joy is doubly sweet.
Speed the day when Marietta can
turn out en masse to welcome Demo
cracy’s Crusaders as they come march
ing home.
We wish to our many: patrons and
all the public the greatest prosperity
and joy in this glad season.
The starving and shivering millions
of Europe need every pound of food,
every yard of cloth that can be found
this winter so we advise our friends
at home to secure their own winter
supplies right now.
We have a large stock of fancy and
staple goods to outfit the whole fam
ily, and our goods were bought some
months ago when prices were lower.
Prices will be higher soon even if
the available supply holds out through
the year.
It is the part of wisdom to buy now.
Again thanking you and wishing
you all the blessings of peace and
prosperity. ' | -
