| THIS YEAR’S RECORDS PROVE
PIGS PAY IN COBB COUNTY
(Continued from Page One)
el ie e DRS T SR R
Now does not all this sound good
for the future of Cobb County? And
this is just a few of the many suc
cessful pig club boys and girls in
the county. We could not possibly
print them all.
We truly believe pork raising will
soon be one of the chief meney crops
in Georgia. Cobb County is taking
the lead in this section. South Geor
gia is more generally raising fine hogs
than North Georgis, but not ahead of
Cobb. We are anxious to do all we
'can to encourage. our young people
in the raising of pigs. We think
it will not only be good for their
‘bank accounts, but will also increase
the interest of young people gener
‘ally in farm work. It will make bet
ter farmers of them. .
In this connection we are remind
ed that The First National Bank last
year advertised to lend pig money to
the club members, and they are deing
the same thing again this year. Any
boy or girl who can care for a pig
can go to the bank and get the money
to buy a pig of good stock. |
Mr. Massey says he as not yet
heard the experience of all those who
made the venture this year, but does
not think any will be failures, and he
wishes to help every boy and girl who
wiil take up this work. We commend
this progressive spirit and we feel
sure that many more young people
will take advantage of the offer this
year.
We ask parents to give the children
a chance. Let them get a pig and en
courage them.
Dr. Sawyer, the County Agent, has
been a large factor in the success of
our pig clubs this year. He has been
tireless in the work, and we can not
say too much in praise of his faithful
service. ;
Towa produces nine million hogs,
and is one of the richest states. Geor
gia produces three million hogs, and
is a better state to raise hogs in than
lowa. The answer is plain, let’s be
a hog state.

MRS. J. W. POWER BROUGHT
HERE FOR BURIAL
NEWS FROM MARIETTA
CHURCHES
METHODIST CHURCH NEWS
Sunday School was well attended
Sunday morning, and a very impres
sive feature of the hour was the re
ception into the Church of Henry
Hicks, a fine little fellow. He was
received on profession of faith and
it was a real joy to admit him to the
fellowship of the Church.
Mrs. James Wingfield Power died
at her home on Bailey Street, in Chat
tanooga on Dec. 6th. The remains
were brought to Marietta on Sunday,
Dec. Bth, for intrement in the City
cemetery. The funeral service hav
ing been held in Chattanooga, only
commitment services were held at the
grave by Dr. I. A, White. The pall
bearers were Mayor Jim Brumby, and
Messrs. Charley Ward, Trenholm Bak

THE EFFECT OF WAR DIET
ON THE HUMAN WEIGHT
A statistical report published in the
German press and dealing with the
effect of war food on the human
constitution shows briefly that far
mers and their families lost no weight
during the war, but ‘that persons
living in large cities were affected
to a serious degree.
According to Bavarian doctors the
average person in cities lost about
one-sixth his prewar weight, but in
small towns the loss has been only
about one-twentieth. |
“Self providers,” as the farmers
are caled, lost no weight during the
war, and this observation applies to
both men and women. Among cityi
consumers, however, me nlost about
one-tenth their prewar weight and
women about one-fourteenth. |
Information of this kind reflects,
in a measure at least, the close food
margins on which city dwellers ini
Central Europe have been living.
According to the United States Food
Administration, the situation proba
bly has been more critical among the |
surrounding nations which Germany
has drained of food, and it is these{
newly liberated countries that must|
have food from America promptlyi
and in plenty. l
