Tieutenant Herbert Dobbs, who
has heen been on a ten days leave at
home, returned to his regiment in
New York.
Mrs. W. S. Terry, of Birmingahm,
arrived on Tuesday for a visit to her
brother, Mr. George Daniell.
Mr. Virgil McCleskey, who has
been ill at Nolan’s Sanitarium for
sovoral weeks, has recovered suffici
ently to be taken home. His friends
hope to se him out before long.
Miss Charlotte Law returns this
weock from Brenau, in Gainesville, to
spend the holidays at home.
Mlisses Ri and Frances Alston, who
have been spending some weeks with
their aunt, Mrs. Edgar Nichols, left
on Tuesday for Madison to spend the
Churistmas holidays with their grand
mother, Mrs. Mustin.
Misses Annie Hahr and Lillian
Dobbs spent the week-end with Mrs
Hilliard Spalding in Atlanta, and at
tended a dinner-dance at the Driving

returned on Thursday from a very
pleasant and successful hunt in South
Georgia on Thursday. ;
Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Lovelace have
gone to house keeping with Mr, and
Mrs. Israel Noe on Godon street,

Mrs. Jack Brumby spent the week
end in Atlanta with Mrs. J. D. Os

Miss Louise Campbell, of Atlanta,
was the guest of Miss Constance Cole
several days last week.
Miss Lulu Kemp returned on Tues
day from the G. N. I. C. at Milledge
ville to spend the holidays with her
parents, Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Kemp.
Mrs. Thompson and Miss Brown,
of Murphy, N. C., were the guests of
Mrs. J. G. Owenby last week.
Mr. J. W. Glover is in Washing
ton on business, and will visit New
York before returning home.

both ill with influenza.

Campbell Petty, who has just re
covered from influenza, is ill with
scarlet fever now.
Mrs. Joe Abbott has recovered
from an attack of pneumonia.
Captain James L. Robertson, of
Kansas City was the guest of Mrs.
Mary J. Turner on Wednesday.
Mr. Cleber Maddox, who has been
stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, as as
sistant dentist for many months, has
received his discharge and is at home
again.
Mr. and Mrs. Trigg, of Gainesville,
were the Suday guests of Mrs. M. D.
Norton.
The Junior Missionary Society of
the Methodist Church met with Mrs.
J. C. Erwin, on Whitlock Ave,, on
Monday afternoon. Mrs. W. T. Ham-l
by, the new pastor’s wife ,and Mrs.
Erwin, wife of the presiding elder,
have charge of this society, this year,
and it is doing good worfl.
Miss Helen Dumas will return this
week from Franklin, Ga., to spend
Christmas. |
Mr. Walter Brakefield, who has
been visiting his family for several
days, has returned to Ravenna, Ken
tucky. |
Miss Helen Asher, of Atlanta, is
spending a week with her aunt, Mrs.
J. W. Lewis, at the Whitlock House.
Mrs. John D. Collins has received
a letter from her brother, Mr. Sidney
Lewis, who is “somewhere in France”
stating that he is in a hospital. The
family is quite uneasy, as Mr. Lewis
gave no particulars. ‘
Miss Mary Byrd Tate, who has
been in the Baird School in Orange,
N. J., will reach home this week to
spend the holidays.
Sergeant Vivian Waddell, who has
been at Fort Screven, has been mus
tered out, and returned home Fri
day. .

Co. D, 25th Regiment, Engineers, who
has been in France for the past eight
months, has been made Captain of
his Company. Norman is an old Ma
rietta boy, and has many friend here
who will b einterested in this news.
His mother, Mrs. Fannie K. Pratt, is
spending the winter in Georgetown,

Major James W. Ord, of the Regu
lars, has been appointed by the Pres
ident, Military Attache to the Lega
tion at Holland. He and ‘Mrs. Ord
have sailed for The Hague, where
they will be for the next four years.
Mrs. Ord was Miss Emily Howell,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elliot How
ell, of Chattanooga. Mr. Howell was
bor nand reare din Marietta, though
he has been a resident of Chatta
ncoga for many years. Mrs. Ord, as
Miss Howell, has often been the guest
of her aunts, Misses Julia and Mary
Howell.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meinert re
turned home Sunday from their trip
to Florida.
Mrs. Gedtrude Scott Dudley and
little boy, John, of Brunswick, are
visiting her sister, Mrs. Allen Scott,
of this city.
Mr. Morgan McNeel has resigned
his commission in the Navy and will
return home Thursday from Halifax.

in Smyrna on Monday, that proved a
particularly pleasant affair.

has been in Augusta with her sick
husband for some weeks, will regret
to learn that she broke her arm on
Monday. The operation performed
on Mr. Heggie's eyes was successful,
and the doctors hope that his sight
will be partially restored. |
