before returning home.
Miss Ella Edwards spent the week
end in Athens with her friend, Miss
Baugh.
Mr. Kenneth Bray, who has been
the teacher of mathematics in our
High School, has accepted a position
with the High School at Commerce.

son, Lieutenant William P. Holland,
with the 319th regiment in France,
assuring her of his health and hap
piness.
Misses Evelyn and O’Neil Kemp, of
Comnrerce, were the guests of their
uncle, Dr. W. M. Kemp, during the
holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Earle Jones came
from Charleston on Christmas day
for a visit of a week to Mrs. Jones’

of the birthday of Mrs. Hawkin’s

ered from an attack of influenza.

cousin, Mrs. W. L. Green.

with which it was laden had been aa

freshments were served.

First Lieutenant Jordan Gardner
arrived Saturday from Rhode Island,
to spend a week’s furlough with his
mother, Mrs. A. S. J. Gardiner. This
is the first leave home that Lieuten
ant Gardner has had since he went
into ‘“this man’s army’’about sixteen
months ago, and he is being warmly
welcomed by many friends. He has
recently been transferred from the
Ordnance Department to the Coast
Artillery.
