The Scale of Motor Vehicle Taxes
And The County Refunding Clause

The scale for the operation of mo
tor vehicles becoming operative in
1920, is as follows: |
For each motorcycle, $5.
For each passenged motor vehicle
_sgating ten or more passengers_ $75.
&br each passenger carrying motor
vehicle not exceeding 23 horse power,
$11.25.
For each motor vehicle, evclusive
of non-passenger carrying motor ve
hicle or truck exceeding 23 horse, per
horse power 60 cents.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of more than
one and not exceeding one and one
half ton capacity, $22.50.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of one ton ca
pacity or less, $l5.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of one and one
half ton and not exceeding two ton
capacity, $3O.
Fo reach non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of more than
two tons and not exceeding two and
one-half tons, $37.50.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of more than
two and one-half tons and not ex
ceeding three tons capacity, $45.
For each non-passenger motor ve

and not evceeding three and one-half
tons capacity, $52.50.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of more than
three and one-half and not exceeding
four tons capacity, $75.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of more than
four and not exceeding five tons ca
pacity, $l5O.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of more than
five and not exceeding six tons capa
city, $375. ;
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck of more than
six and not exceeding sevent tons ca
pacity, $750.
For each non-passenger carrying
motor vehicle or truck exceeding
seven tons capacity, $1,125.
For each motor vehicle not other
wise classified herein:
(a) Not exceeding 23 horse power,

for which free number plates are fur
nished to be known as dealers’ num
bers, and.distinguished by adifferent
color from those furnished owners,
The law also provides that when
even a motor vehicle or motorcycle
is registered on or after the first day
of August of any year, the fee of
such registration shall be one-half of
the amount of the annual registration |
fee as prescribed by law.
It is further provided the sum due
to defray the necessary expenses to
carry out the provisions of the law,
shall not exceed 15 per cent of the‘
total revenue derived under this act.
That clause of the bill which pro
vides for refunding to counties fol
lows:
' “Be it further enacted and it is
hereby enacted by the authority of
the same, That each and every county
within said State which has hereto
fore built or shall hereafter build any
portion of the road within said coun
ties designated by said board as a
portion of said system of State aid
roads, with funds derived from the
issuance of county bonds or otherwise,
under approved plans, specifications
and supervision of the State High
way Department, shall be reimbursed
in whole for the cost of said road;
provided, that before any portion ofi
said State aid road system shall be
constructed by any county, projects
therefor shall be approved in advance
by said State Highway Board by for-i
mal action entered upon the minutes

after the State system of roads has
been completed.

of uniform size and are sold by the
pound by actual weight and not by
a fixed price for each package as are
most foods in package form.
Congress now has specified definite
ly that from the date of the passage
of the amendment, July 24, 1919, a
statement of the net weight will be
required on all wrapped meats, inclu
ding hams and bacon, coming within
the jurisdiction of the Federal food
and drugs act.
The Marietta Journal has been “the
