ACWORTH SCHOOL NEWS.
; i A
(By Isabella Collins.)
Every pupil in Arworth school is’
busy trying to make the year of 02T
an absolute success.
The grounds around the building
are being improved in leoks by being
cleaned and in beauty by the plant
ing of shade trees and the making of
beautiful flower beds.
The boys are all enthused over
thiir excejlent basebal} team and
the girls over their skill at tennis.
In our literary studies we spend
many hours of honest toil. The first
and second grades in high school are
having a contest in spelling and each
pupil is exerting every power to lead
their respective side to victory.
The Senior class isstudying Mil
ton’s “Paradise Lost” as a classic,
and although at times its deep lines
are more or less ineomprehensible
we are making an earnest effort at
it and do not feel discouraged for
every member of the class was on
the honor roll last month.
There has been a new rule made
by Prof. W. D. Hawkes recently.
“No young lady shall be escorted to
school, either walking or riding, by
a young gentleman.” Of course for
some pupils this extracts a good deol
of pleasure, but we are sure that in
the long run it will prove nothing
less than a triumphant step toward
the betterment of the school.
There is a congenia] spirit among
the pupils and a feeling of co-opera
tion of the parents and teachers and
we hardly deem this term otherwise
than a success.

This has been a busy week with us.
School’ yards cleaned; roses and oth

couraging sight to witness the hear
ty and cheerful work done by the

was watching the smallest boy in the
schoo] trying to keep at work by the
side of the tallest boy on the grounds.
How merrily the pupils sang while
at the work, drawing the attention
on many ‘passersby. Tools were
loanad by near by friends. Dr. Todd
and Miss Gibbes visited us and ap
poited Estes Cunningham Junior
Health Commissoner and Linnie Al
i exander Nurse.
| On Thursday afternoon, Dr. Todd

ed teachers, pupils and a number of

picture exhibit for which the school

sed a perfect medical examination.
