And some say it was the best they ever attended. % Leonard, the eight year old son of Mr, and Mrs. P. T. Cunningham, is very ill with pneumonia at this time. Mrs. R. V. McClure is still improv ing, we are glad to say. Quite a lot of corn and cotton has been planted the past week. ' From the looks of the gardens in this section everybody is going to have plenty to eat. ~ Last year you could see'cotton in the field nearly everywhere, but this year you see corn, potatoes, pegnuts, watermelons’ etec. Mr. Farmer has gotten wise to these hard times and is going to raise something to eat in stead of so much cotton, Mr. L. H. Steinhaver is putting in a water supply and eight sisterns, and will soon have it completed. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Bettis spent Saturday night with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Gresham. N. Terry. Monday was a good day for lazy husbands to finish splitting stove wood. One fellow who tried it says he found a snake—not a nigger—in the wood pile and came very near getting bit. This is a warning to the men who still insist on splitting stove wood for their wives. Midway Sunday School has bought new song books and will try them out next Sunday afternoon in the choir. Prof. P, B. Jones has been in 'vited and all singers are given a ‘special invitation to be present. Luther Dobbins, of Ocilla, Ga., is visiting his sister, Miss Amanda, who is sick. Her funeral was conducted by Rev. W. T. Walden at the Primative Baptist church Monday at eleven o’clock. Interment was in the cemetery nearby. Leake’s Ford was stolen from in front of the Baptist church. Mr. Will Leake heard the car start off and as soon as he could get his own car gave chase. The driver rad the car into a ditch near Brownsville. He went to a nearby house where he procured a lantern and upon his re turn to the car saw the approaching car and ran. They have no clue to his identity. - Mr. Sim Miller, of Birmingham, is visiting relatives here. The many friends of Mrs. S. E. Master Hubert Darby is confined to his room with diptheria, we are sorry to say. Mr. Jim Seff and family - have measles, and some of the family have been very sick, we are sorry to say. There were quite a number from here who attended the singing at Mt. Calvary on Sunday. Mr. Clyde Kemp has accepted a position on the highway. We hope the cool weather we had Sunday and Monday will not do any damage to the fruit crop. Monday night, April 4, Mr. W. T. Kelley had a mule stolen from his barn and the thief tried to set fire to his barn. Putting fire to a bale of cotton in the wagon shed, but the fire went out before any damage was done. The negro thief sold the mule before Mr. Kelley caught him, but he got the mule back and the sheriff put the negro in the Marietta jil.
