I notice last week’s Journal car
ries a copy of the act authorizing
the election of one commissioner for
'Cobb county, and I think possibly the
new law would improve over the old
one, but attached to the same act as
a supplement, comes the increasing
of the number of commissioners to
12, and if that act passes it means,
virturally, that we have 12 commis
sioners instead of five as we now
have.
It is true the framers and support
ers of this bill claim that the bond
commission would have nothing to
ldo with the management of county
affairs. yet in the same breath they
tell that this commission hasl full
control of funds and bonds acerueing
therefrom and that they shall have
power to elect such help as they see
fit to assist them in carrying on their
work.
What is their work? Why, to sell
bonds and take the proceeds there
from and hire a secretary, a treasur
er, an engineer and such other offi
cers as they may wish. Now, I was in
favor of the one man commissioner
bill, but I am not in favor of the 12
or fifteen and maybe more that this
bill carries with it.
And who is to constitute this bond
commmission? Why, the bankers of
iCobfib county are to form this com
‘mission. Why should we vote to
change our county government from
SV gy P @ one and in the same
ac‘t"r‘.n\“"‘:’}gange it from six to sixteen
And why should eleven of these (one
from each bank) be bankers? It’s
true our bankers are good men, but
are they the only good men in the
county? Why should the banks have
absolute control over the finances of
the county and also of the building,
improving and maintaining of the
roads, bridges. etc.?
If we must have a commission of
12 why not make it representative
body? Give the banks their pro rata
share of the number and all other
professions theirs. ;
Who got up this bill? The people
or the profession? Why should we
have a bond commission and no bonds
in sight? Cut out this rider bill and
the one man bill will pass almost
without opposition. but with this bond
issie attached I hope they fail.

Ability to stand the strain of work is
the ;;lri\nlege of the strong and healthy,
but how our hearts ache for the weak
and sickly women strugfilin with their
daily rounds of household guties, with
backaches, headaches, nervousness and
almost every movement brings a new
pain, Why will not the mass of letters
from women all over this country, which
we have been publishing, convince such
women that Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vege
