Music Section of Woman’s Club
Holds Interesting Meeting
The music Section of the Woman’s
Club held a most interesting meeting
on last{ aturday afternoon, at the
home of the Chairman, Mrs. Mac
Hodges.
An interesting feature of the pro
gram were the violin selections given
by Col. J. Colton Lynes. This was the
first time Col. Lynes has ever per
formed in public, and his composi
tions, all of which were original, de
lighted his audience. His violin, which
is.a very old instrument has an in
teresting history. Its former owner,
a French officer, gave it to Col
Lynes’ father for safekeeping until
he should return from the Franco-
Prussian War. The officey was never
heard of again, presumably having
been killed, and so the violin later
‘passed into Col. Lynes’ hands.
~ The other number of the program
which wepre also greatly enjoyed,
were as follows: ¢
‘Gavotte—Gluck Brahms Miss Glen
~ nis Hancock.
Prelude in ¢ sharp minor—Rachman.
off, Miss Hancock.
Musical reading: Aux Italiens—with
music from Il Trovatore, Mys. John
Boston.
Vocal selections: “Une furtive lagri
. ma’ from “ylixer of Love,” - “Ah
so fair”—DMartha and “Until,” Mr.
~ Floyd Fuller.
A large number of the members of
Tthe section were present.
An Interesting Meeting
Circle number one of the Woman’s
Missionery Society of the Methodist
Church held a most interesting meet
ing Monday afternoon in the Church
parlors. Mrs. J. M. Tumlin was chair
man, while Mrs. J. A. Reed had charg
of the devotional. Splendid papers
on Sochon were read by Mrs. M. R.
Lyons, Mrs. Charlie Northeutt and
Mrs Tom Hamby. Miss Elizabeth
Northcutt sang, which was much en
joyed. Mrs. John Boston gave a read
ing on “Discipline”, also a humorous
reading both being given in Mrs. Bos-“
ton’s most delightful mannner. The
Circle then adjourned to the Presby
terian Church to hear the report from
the colored delegateswho were sent
to the Gammon School in Atlanta by
the Presbyterian, Baptist and Meth
odist churches. The delegates were
Mattie Durham and Lauro Williams.
After hearing the reuort made all felt
that the money had been well spent
in their effort to aid in this course.
