The colonel had heard of two re
cent disasters in the family of his
colored orderly and was surprised to
find him apparently as cheerful as
ever when he returned to duty after
a brief furlough home.
“Well, Sam,” said the colonel sym
pathetically, “I hear you have had
some hard luck.”
“Whut, me, suh? Nossuh, Ah ain’
had no hahd luck.”
“Why, wasn’t that your brother
who was killed in a railroad wrerck
recently and wasn’t that your wife
that was hurt in an automobile ac
cident?”
“Oh, yassuh, yassuh—but dat’s
deir hahd luck——not mine.”

Mr. Hoyle Dobbins and Miss Mabel
Turner were married last Wednesday
night at Midway church, Rev. E. D.
Patton performed the ceremony, the
attendants were Hugh Dobbirs and
Miss Estelle Turner, Alono Turner
and Miss Nannie Ruth Dobbins. Af
ter the wedding, the parents, and all
the children of the two families, W.
W. Dobbins and Henry Turner took
supper together. The two families
numbered twenty-five; the bride and
groom being the oldest children in
each of the families. Hoyle holds a
responsible position with the Reo Mo
tor Company, of Atlanta. The couple
will reside in Marietta. We wish
them abundant happiness and a long
life.
The protracted meeting will begin
at the Lost Mountain Baptist church,
the fourth Sunday in August.
W. N. Terry spent several days last
week with his sister, in Gadsden, Ala.
