The death of Mr. John McCutcheon
who died at his home in Atlanta, on
Stnday night, will cast gloom of
sadness throughout this section. Mr.
McCubcheon made his home here up
until a short time ago. e was rce

_Mr. Casteel, an aged gentleman,
died suddenly at his home home on
Boswell road, last Wednesday motn
tmg. His body was laid to rest in
New Hope cemetery, Thursay. The
Rev. J. T. Langley officiated. Black
Undertaking company had charge.
Mr. Harry Bozeman, of Kennesaw,
'spent several days last week with Mr.
ldClaude Bond, returning home Satur
ay.

of the week with Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Franklin, at Bold Springs.

gressing nicely. We are having an
attendance of 70 and above. The
Rev. Lacy, our attendance officer,
made our school a visit last Thurs
day. Dr. Todd also made our school
ia visit and gave typhoid innocula
tion to quite a number of the pupils.

county, is visiting relatives here.

The annal protracted services will
begin at New Hope church next Sun
day, August 20th. There will be
both day and night services. Every
body invited. JRemiember 'we ‘will
have Sunday school promptly at 9
a. m. next Sunday.
Mr. Claude Bond has returned to
Abbeville, S. C., where he will re
sume his work on the railroad.
Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Cross spent
Sunday with relatives, in Atlanta.
Miss Lena Bently is the guest of
Misses Irene and Minnie Mae Frey,
and Mrs. Paul Groover, of the Mari

to his home in North Carolina, after
spending several weeks with his
brother, Mr. G. W. Collins, of this
place.

Mrs. Frank Harris.
We are sorry to report that little
Billy Collins is not much improved

Died on July the ItOh, Mrs. J. H.
Reed, of Marietta. She leaves three
sons and four daughters, and a host
of friends and relatives, to mourn
her death. Interment was in the Mil
ford cemetery.
Stella Mae, the little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lem Chandler is very
sick at this writing, we are sorry to
say.

Grange, is visiting friends and rela
tives in our community this week.
Mr. W. M. Hilderbrand spent a few

The protracted meeting closed at
Midway Sunday night with eight con
cessions, four by letter and four by
experience. Rev. Mr. Kingsley,
Presbyterian evangelist, conducted
the service and preached pure gospel
sermons, plain and simple,
~ Mrs. Nannie Scott Watson, of
Shamrock, Texas, is visiting relatives
here.
. Mrs. Charlie Wright, of Americus,
‘Ga., is visiting her mother.
The last week’s Journal carried
almost one page advdertising farms
levied on to pay taxes. This shows
what class has suffered most since
the war. Many have already left the
farms. Much land is lying out. Very
few have paid expenses the last two
vears. The drift is to the cities and
public works. This is a bad state of
"airs and we regret that it is so.

Birmingham, Ala., are visiting their
parents here.
Mr. Ernest Rice and family, of
Columbia, 8. C., spent part of last
week with relatives here.
