TRAINMOVING AT EX
GESSIVE SPEED RATE
PETITIONER ALLEGED
Mother and Babe Killed by Fast
‘“‘Dixie Limited’’ While Cross
ing Tracks at Dixie Avenue,
December 8, 1923.
A petition was filed in the Clerk’s
office of the Cobb county superior
court Tuesday by Joe M. Dobbins
and Joe M. Dobbins, Jr., against the
Western and Atlantic Railroad ask
ing for $lOO,OOO damages for the
death of Mrs. Dobbins and her small
child, Dorothy Louise.
It will be remembered that Mrs.
Dobbins and child were killed while
crossing the tracks of the railroad
at Dixie avenue on the morning of
December 8, 1923. The _tragedy
shocked the entire community.
The petition states that the train
was going at a speed of sixty miles
per hour when the accident occurred
while the city ordinance requires
the train to slow down to a speed of
ten miles per hour. The petition also
alleges that the railroad did not have
a watchman at the crossing at the
time and that the engineer failed to
blow his warning whistle until after
he had hit the victims.
Attorneys Fred Morris and J. Z.
Foster represent the plaintiffs. The
case will not be heard during the
March term of court but it is likely
that it will come up at the next
term.

BARN, FOUND BY WIFE
Wife of Sim Anderson Gives De
spondency as Reason. Had Been
Blue Several Days
The lifeless form of Sim Anderson,
a middle agd farmer of Floyd, was
found hanging by a rope from a
beam in the barn back of his house
early Tuesday morning by his wife.
Despondency is given by his wife as
the reason for Mr. Anderson taking
his life. 3
According to Mrs. Anderson her
husband had been despondent for
several weeks but appeared to be in
better spirits at breakfast Tuesday
morning. After breakfast he went
about his regular <chores around the
farm and about nine o’clock went
into the barn. As he did not come
out again Mrs. Anderson became sus
picious and called to him several
times. Getting no reply she sent
one of the children in the barn to
find him. In answer to a scream by
the child she rushed into the barn to
ifind her husband hanging by a rope
from a beam. She cut him down
‘herself but he was already dead.
’ Mr. Anderson is one of the best
known farmers in Cobb county and
his many friends throughout the
’county will regret to learn of his un
timely death, _
SCHOOL AT A, & M.
Opportunity Afforded all Teachers
to Better Prepare
For Work
The Seventh District A. & M.
School is offering a summer school
to the teachers in the public schools
of the district. This summer insti
tute will begin on Tuesday, July 1,
and will close with the State exam
ination of Friday, August 1. The en
tire cost for attending this school will
be $l6 for board and $4 for inciden
tals.
The reason for the institute is a
desire on the part of the Seventh
District A. & M. School to make this
institution, during the summer
months when the regular student
body is away, of a practical value to
the district. In no way can it serve
the district better than by helping
the teachers of the district to help
the boys and girls at home. - Also,
there is a need now for good grade
teachers in all parts of our state,
and by this means our state school
superintendent is trying to solve this
need. It will supply the deficiency
and help those already in the work to
advance to better positions, and to
tg_t confidence in their
“and - more genuine
pleasure in teaching. =~ T
Some Reasons for Attending
1. The State examination will be
held on Friday, August 1, at the close
of the institute.
2. The teachers assigned to the
school by State Superintendent N. H.
Ballard, will have furnished them his
idea of essentials, a line of ques
tions that will be asked on the exam
inations.
3. You will be enabled thereby to
get an idea of the essentials for the
examinations. You will be prepared
to secure a better grade of license.
4. You will be better prepared to
render service at your school next
year.
5. You will receive inspiration for
your work.
The State School Superintendent
will make all the assignments as to
the faculty of the institute. To quote
from him, “The faculty of these
schools will be, as far as possible,
master teachers. The student body
will be organized into classes and
taught by master teachers the same
subjects they will present in a short
time to their children with the hope
of imitating the master teacher that
they may better present the same sub
jects to their own schools.
There will be a course of talks and
lectures at least three evenings per
week. Excursions to interesting
points will be made from time to
time.
For further information, please
address your county school superin
tendent, the State school superinten
dent, or the principal of the A. &
M. School, Powder Springs Ga.

Methodist Church
Raise Superanuate
Endowment Quota
In conformity with an organized
movement throughout the Southern
Methodist church, the First church of
this city plans to raise in the near
future its quota of $3,500 toward an
endowment fund with which to care
for its superanuated preachers and
widows of preachers.
It is the purpose of the denomi
nation to raise a minimum sum of
$10,000,000 as an endowment, the in
terest from which will be used to
care for the superanuated preachers
numbering at present nearly 1,000,
and widows of preachers numbering
more than 1300.
A Board of Finance created at the
General Conference in 1918 for the
purpose of handling this neglected
but very humane task has marked
time szince that date because of oth
er pressing financial claims on the
church.
A very interesting booklet entitled
“The Call of the Forgotten Man’ is
being distributed locally this week by
the special effort committee of which
Mr. Rosser Little is chairman, in or
der that every Methodist may learn
from authorative sources the actual
conditions of need among these worn
out veterans of the ministry.

ON GIRL'S: BED SET
Four of Five Members of Family
Wiped Out By Youth in
One Years’ Time
St. Petersburg, Fla., Feb. 20.—
Full and complete confession of the
murder of his father and mothr here
last night and his two gisters in De
catur, Ga., a year ago, was made
here this afternoon by Frank Me-
Dowell, according to Chief of Police
Coslick and Detective John Trotter.
Frank told the police that when he
was 12 years old, he committed a
sin against the Holy Ghost, and ever
since then there had been an anti-
Christ element in his family, and he
felt he had to remove it. He said
that last night soon after his father
and mother went to bed, the anti-
Christ became dominant and he got
his pistol and shot his father and his
‘mother. They were to him, not his
lfather and mother, he said, but the
anti-Christ. He said he shot his
father first and then his mother, and
fired five shots, all that were in his
weapon.
Then he went back to bed. This
was early, soon after 10 o’clock. He
said he woke up later when it began
and that there might be co \sequen
ces. So he said he got up and went
to the kitchen and bumped his head
against a shelf and then gave the
alarm to the neighbors.
Describes Burning Girls
Frank told the police that he had
realized long before the fire in which
his sisters were burned to death, that
they were the anti-Christ element in
‘his family, and that he must remove
‘them.
He said he went into the room
where they were sleeping and threw
gasoline over their bed and then took
fire from the fireplace and set the
gasoline ablaze He said he then ran
out of the room, after locking the
door leading from the house and af
ter he got out locked the other door,
which opened into the yard.
Frank went into details when
asked to do so. He said that he had
written the old letter, typewritten on
a piece of paper cut heart-shaped
Monday and had taken it home with
him. After shooting his parents, he
said he put the letter on the bed be
tween them.
This letter read as follows:
“Our father who are in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name; Thy king
dom come; Thy will be done on earth
as it is in Heaven; give us this day
our daily bread and forgive us our
debts as we forgive our debtors and
lead us not into temptation, but de
liver us from evil for Thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory
forever and ever, Oh, Jehovah, for
thrust in the defiled womb of the
elder virgin of the issue of anti-
Christ didst I offer up this prayer to
the spirit writ upon the likeness of
the cross of sin, which didst weigh
heavily upon mine heart, till purged
in the consuming flames of the evil
one; and it was the end of the first
year of sin with me and the end of
mine sin before the spirit; and now
in the mouth of the father of the
house of Satan do I offer up this
prayer of mine Heavenly Father writ
on the likeness of mine heart, des
tined to the blackness of sin that it
shall be washed away in the blood
of the lamb as it gusheth from the
body of thine slain enemy; and it is
the end of the second year of sin
with me and the end of mine sin be
fore thee and likewise in the watery
sepulchre of the Son of the House
of anti-Christ shall I mingled this
