Forum Executive Committee: H.
G. Conway, chairman. Ten meetings,
subjects discussed: Better Facili
ties, Good Roads, Housing Conditions,
Trade Extension—Sales Days, Health
and Sanitation, General Committee
Reports, Industrial Development,
Agriculture, Good Fellowship, Hotel.
Better School Facilities Committee,
“Fred Morris chairman: Renered val
uable assistance in creating sentiment
for, and the success of the bond is
sue of $90,000.00 for new high
school building and repairs to pres
ent buildings.
Atlanta Road Committee, M. L.
McNeel, Sr.,, chairman: Interested
County Commissioners in paving un
paved stretch between Smyrna and
the river, assisted in getting financial j
problem in shape so work wcould bei
done and assisted in many other ways {
to get the project actually under con
struction. Interest in this project
lead the Commissioners to approve a
three mile project leading out of Ma
rietta north on the Dixie Highw’ay,‘
work on which will be started as soon
as practicable. Both these projects
will greatly enhance the value of
property along this important high
way, and will correspondingly en
hance the value of property in the
City of Marietta.
County Demonstration Agent Com
mittee, J. T, Anderson, chairman:
Through hard efforts interested the
County Commissioners, the Board of
Education and the farmers of Cobb
County in the employment of a Coun

Tourists Information Bureau Com
mittee, D. P. Butler, chairman: This
committee established a touristsy in
formation bureau in the headquar
ters. During the tourist season an
average of twenty-five tourists per
day called for information. Great
praise has been given by the tourists
for this service, in view of the faect
that no charge is made for informa
tion. Road signs were placed over
detour roads while the Atlanta road
was- in such bad condition.
Sales Day Committee, Geo. E.
Daniell, chairman: This committee
thoroughly investigated operations
of Sales Days in many other cities,
and at conclusion of investigations
made arrangements to have Mr., Gur
ney R. Lowe, author of the Neosho
plan of Golden Rule Sales Days visit
Marietta for the purpose of explain
ing the plan to.the merchants. Mari
etta merchants have conducted their
fourth Sales Day, the results of which
are very gratifying. :
Public Health and City Beautiful
Committee, Dr. G. O. Allen, chair
man: This committee made a thor
ough analysis of health conditions of
the city, making recommendations to
the City Council in the form of a
general clean-up program. Results
of the activities of this committee are
being gradually worked out. Work
of beautifying the park and addition
al street cleaning and placing of a
large number of garbage cans can be
credited largely to the efforts of this
committee, -
Building and Building and Loan
Association Committee, Judge N. A.
Morris chairman: While this com
mittee has not functioned to a great
extent, it is pointed out that during
the past year approximately 30 new
homes have been built in the corpo
rate limits of the city of Marietta, a
new apartment house has just been
completed, a new bank building is
nearing completion, about one-half
dozen new store buildings have been
erected and many improvements to
other buildings in the business seec
tion. The development of Kennesaw
Mountain, one of the biggest projects
in North Georgia, will boom the
building spirit of Marietta in the im
mediate future.
Industrial Development Commit
tee, M. D. Hodges, chairman: This
committee has not been in position
to accomplish results which can be
pointed to with any great deal of
pride, yet they have functioned faith
fully. Leads have been secured on
several large manufacturing indus
tries, but when it came to a “show
down,” our inadequate water supply
proved a very serious handicap. Ma
rietta’s industrial advantages have
been widely advertised through the
Manufacturers Record and through
the Community Service which is
mailed to all parts of the country.
The committee has interested the
Board of Lights and Water Commis
sion in giving a reduced power rate
to manufacturing industries. This
feature will be an added inducement.
The rate has not been actually grant
ed, but will be within the next few
weeks. ;
The committee would also call at
tention to the many expansions and
improvements made to our present
manufacturing industries within the
past year. This fact has also been
advertised throughout the country.
Marietta-Cartersville Paving Pro
gram Committee, M. L. McNeel,
chairman: Through the efforts of this
committee, the Commissioners of{
Cobb County and the Commissioners
of Bartow County, have approved the
plan to pave the Dixie Highway be
tween Marietta and Cartersville.
While all details of this project have
not been thoroughly worked out, it is
believed they will be within the very
near future. This projeet, with the
completion of the Atlanta Road will
place Marietta and Cobb County on
one of the longest paved stretches of
highway in the state and will greatly
better our agricultural section, inas
much as farm property all along the
highway will increase in value and
farmers will be in a position to get
‘their products to markets with a
great saving of time. Cities and
communities along the route will be
brought closer together in a spirit of
friendship and better understanding.
Better Car Service Committee, W.
H. Trezevant, chairman: At the re
quest of hundreds of people extend
ing over a period of three or four
years, this committee has conferged
with officials of the Atlanta Northern
Railway many times regarding better
car service between Marietta and At-’
lanta. At the present time the At
lanta Northern Railway is placing ad
ditional switches on their line, also
new power lines and within the next
few weeks better service will be in
‘augurated. This service is to include
express cars in the early morning and
late afternoon rush hours in addition
to the local service now being main
tained. Local service will also be
correspondingly improved.
hotel Committee, R. W. Northeutt,
chairman: This committee presented
citizens of Marietta an opportunity
to give Marietta what she has needed
for many years—a modern hotel.
Only $76,700 could be raised in the
campaign. $lOO,OOO was the mini
mum goal, ¢onsequently the cam
paign failed. Marietta must, and in
the future will have a new hotel, and
the fact that the recent campaign
failed will not be accepted as abso
lute defeat.
Miscellaneous
Pure Bred Chickens: In co-operg
tion with the Civitan Club, the Hor
ace Orr Post of the American Le
gion, Thirty trios of pure bred chick
ens were given to boys and girls of
Cobb county in an effort to create
interest to get the county stocked
with pure bred chickens.
Special Cooking Rate: Through co
operation with the Board of Lights
and Watre Commission, a special 3¢
cooking rate has been secured. This
special rate is of great value to many
house-wives of Marietta.
Employment Bureau: An employ
ment bureau by the Secretary.
While this department has not ren
dered a great service, due to the fact
that calls for help have not been
many, position have been secured for
six persons.
For Rent Bureau: Good service
has been rendered through the For
Rent Bureau, which was inaugurated
by the Secretary. People who have
rooms, apartments and houses for
rent, list them without charge and
people who are looking for places
call for this information. During the
past eight months four houses, six
furnished rooms and eight unfur
nished rooms have been rented
through the- efforts of this depart
ment.
‘Co-operation Among Business In
terests: Since its inception the Mari
etta Chamber of Commerce has con
tinually conducted a campaign to
bring the business interests closer
together in a spirit of friendship
and better understanding. The suc
cess of this work shows for itself.
Co-operation Between City and
County: As in the above case, the or
ganization has continually conducted
a campaign to bring the city of Mari
etta and other towns and commu
nities in the country closer together.
Results of this work also speak for
itsself, as at practically every public
meeting held by organization repre
sentatives from almost every section
of the county are present.
Advertising: With a small amount
of funds which has been available for
this work, good progress has been
made in advertising the many advan
tages of Marietta and Cobb county.
During the past eight months approx
imately two hundred requests for in
formation concerning Marietta have
been answered.
Community Center: Immediately
after securing permanent headquar
ters, the Board of Directors invited
the general public and various or
ganizations to make use of the large
assembly rooms for committee and
other meetings (political and- re
ligious meetings excluded.) Use of
these rooms are still available for
various meetings when reservation
is made in advance. Including all

mettings held in the assembly room
since permanent headquarters were
secured, approximately one hundred

Co-operation With Other Organi
zations: At all times the Marietta
Chamber of Commerce has co-oper
ated will all other organizations of
the city in any and all- movements
which meant the betterment of our
city and county.
