DAUGHTER OF MRS. J, M. BROWN.
Mre. J. M. Brown, Dunnegan, Mo.,
writes: ¢“My little daughter, three
jears old, was troubled with a very bad
cough which remained after an attack
of catarrhal fever, which was a great
ileal worsee at night.
“She would wake up out of her sleep
and cough until 1 feared she could not
stand it.
“Nothing that we gave her seemed to
do her any good. I then concluded to
send for Dr. Hartman’s book entitled
‘The Ills of Life,” which I promptly
received,
‘“latthesame timecommenced giving
her Peruna, She has taken one hottle
in all, through which she has obtained
& complete cure.
“‘She also since her birth was troubled
with indigestion, but since she }as
taken Peruna she can eat almost any
kind of food without any bad results,
“She iz now as well and happy as any
little girl can be. When our friends
#ay bow well she lcoks, I tell them
Peruna did it.
“I shall always be a friend of Peruna,
88 I consider it the best medicine for
coughs and indigestion we have ever
tried, and will recommend it to any one
similarly afflicted.”
MRS. LYDIA J. SPOONER, Santa
Monica, Cal,, writes that they are
never withont Peruna in the home, that
they find it the finest family remedy
they have ever used.

Help the Salvation Army.
Help the Salvation Army to help
the helpless. That is what we are
here for, We are striving to build up

be a great blessing to many a poor
needy soul, temporally and spiritu

bedding, ciothing, hardware, paper,
rags, magazines, old iron, rubber
shoes and every thing you have to
epare from what God has so kindly
lent to you for a while,
Cast your bread upon the waters and
it shall return to you after many days.
We are undenominational, and ask
your assistance to help raise the fallen.
Please help us. We are your hum

Lion Licks Hand of Little Girl.
Pittsburg, Pa., Sept. 4th—Spring
‘ing at the child as it did when it
killed three men and one woman,
Conja, the most feared lion at the
Highland Park Zoo, yesterday
caused wild excitement when Lena
‘Meck, three years old, placed her
hand in the savage monster's cage
and he jumped towards the babe.
Several women fainted. Keepers
of the zoo rushed to the scene and
stood stupefied for an instant when
they saw the lion affectionately
licking and pawing the hand of the
little girl. However, they took the
child out of harm’s way. A few
moments before the lion had tried
to break the heavy iron bars of his
cage in an effort to reach another
beast.
Couldn’t Trust His Vision.
“I always mistrust the super
patarally innocent pose,”’ said
Wilton Lackaye, according to
Young’s Magazine, ‘‘lt reminds
me of an old college professor of
mine who attended a banquet once
and drank several glasses of port.
The professor did not know this
wine’s extraordinarystrength,and,
in all ianocence, he took too much.
When he rose to leave the table,
his legs, to his dismay, tottered,
and the room seemed to sway
slightly. |
*“The horrified professor got to
the parlor in safety. He sat down
in the most distant corner. But
soon his young hostess, leading a
maid who carried her two beauti
ful twin babies, came to him for
his approbation.
*‘The professor sut up very erect.
He gazed at the twins glassily.
Then he articulated carefully, in
a hoarse, thick voice:
‘“‘What a bonny little child!’ "
