l Lester Davis, who was tried for
(assault on Mrs. Huey, was found
|guilty and was recommended to the
|mercy of the court, He was given
|a sentence of twenty years.
| Davis is 21 years of age; and has
ia wife and one child. He admit
(ted being the party to the crime,
but claimed that it was by mutual
agreement that he went to see the
victim,but no confidence was placed
in his statment and the good citi
zens of that community took the
stand in behalf of Mrs. Huey, stat
ing that she had lived in the com
munity practically all her life and
that there was not the least shadow
of doubt as to her character. The
neighbors of Mrs. Huey feel out
raged over this assault and deeply
sympathize with her in her trouble.

TWO NEGRO CRIMINALS.
Bannister and Williams Who
Gashed Messrs. Cquper
and Northcutt.
Frank Bannister, the negro who so
frightfully eut Mr. William Couper,
several weeks ago, pleaded guilty in the
guperior;court Monday and was sentenc
ed by Judge Morris to ten years in the
penitentiary.
Dave Williams, who cut Mr. Howard
Northeutt, was sentenced to ten years.
Both negroes are now at work on the
public roads near Acworth.
Mr. Couper, whose head was nearly
severed, was in court when Bannister’s
case came up. He has two bad scars,
but is able to turn his head despite the
fact that the muscles at the back of his
neck were severed. Under the prompt
treatment of Dr. Nolan they grew back
together.
