have returned from Perry, where
they were guests of Mrs. Rober
son’s mother.

Mrs. Bettie Dorsey died at herl
home the 26th of December after a
lingering illness. The funeral was
at her home the 27th, conducted by
Rev, George L. King. Mrs. Dorsey
was a consistent member of the
Methodist church, a good and true
friend to every one in need. Her
presence will be greatly missed, but
her influence will live on forever. !
She is survived by her husband and |
one daughter, Miss Eva, and a host |
of relatives and friends. Our sym-’
pathy to the bereaved family. |

Mr. J. M. Comer were married at
the kome of the bride, Dr. and Mrs,
J. D. Middlebrooks, Sunday even
ing at six o’clock, The bride is|
one of our sweetest and most popu-i
lar young ladies. The groom hasi

and has won many friends while
here, The happy couple left on the
Seaboard Sunday night for Comer,
Georgia, to visit the groom’s par-!

A Proclamation.

Governor of said State.
Whereas, Official information
has been received at this Depart
ment that on the night of Decem
ber 30th last, street lamps were
taken frorh the posts of Smyrna
and placed upon the tracks of the
Atlanta Northern and W. & A.
Railroad, and other acts of van
dalism were committed by un
known persons who fled from the
scene and escaped, and are now
fugitives from justice.
I have thought proper, there
fore, to issue this my Proclama
tion, hereby offering a reward of
One Hundred ($100.00) dojlars
for the apprehension and delivery
of said unknown persons, with ev
idence sufficient to convict, to the
sheriff of Cobb county and State.
And I do, moreover, charge
and require all officers in this
State, civil and military, to be
vigilant in endeavoring to appre
hend the said unknown persons
in order that he may be brought
to trial for the offense with which
he stands charged.

‘ ward, were aworn in by Ordinary Gann
‘at the Council Chamber as Mayor and
‘Couneil for the City of Marietta for the
next two years, Monday night.
Prayers were offered by Rev. J. S,
Bryan and Rev. R. T. Ayers.
After an inauguration address by the
Mayor, the Covncil went into exaecutive
session and elected the following of- !
ficors:
City Clerk, Mr. W, J. Black; City
Treasurer, Mr. J. G. Roberts; Chief of
Police, Mr. Tom Grogan ; Deputy Mar
shals, Mr. B. A. Osborne, Mr. C. H,
Goodson and Mr. Lon Moone, the last
two gentlemen being appointed. The
election of Street Boss was left to the
Street Committee, and the election of
City SBexton was left to the Cemetery
Committee.
The Council spent several hours inl
discussing the Fire Department. They
decided to meet agsin Wednesday
night and have the ¥ire Committee to
report to the Council at once with their
recommendation in regard to what
should be done for the W¥ire Depart
ment. The Mayor was instructed to
invite W. R. Joyner, who was formerly
Chief of the Atlanta Fire Department,
to meet with the Council Wednesday
night and confer with them in regard
to what is best to be done. A paid
department will be organized at once, 1
and a 8 800 N as proper arrangements can
be made a chemical engine and hose
wagon will be ordered, and the fire
house will be pat in first-class order.
The report of the old administration |
in regard to the finances of the city was 1
referred to the Finance Committes
with instructions to investigate same
and report to the Council Wednesday i
night. |
The Council stayed in session four !
hours and spent most of the tirae in the
election of officers and in the discus
sion of the Fire Department.

authorizing the sale to be made in
Cobb county, will be sold at the usual
place of sheriff’s sales at the court
house in Marietta, Ga., within the
legal hours of sale, on the first Tues
day in February next, the following
real estate: Part of Land Lot Number
1086 in the Sixteenth district and Sec
and section of said county, and de
scribed as follows: Commencing at
the northwest corner of said Ilot,
where the roads on the north and west
sides of said land lot join, and run
ning south 150 feet; thence east 294
feet; thence north 150 feet to said
north road, and thence west along
said road 294 feet to starting point.
