We had an election here the first
day in the year. Thefollowing offi

Died—New Years evening abcut

in Atlanta. Mrs. Louis D. Yancey.
Mrs. Yancey before her marriage,
was the youngest daughter of Mrs.
Mollie Hamby. She was a young
woman of gentle disposition, kind
and true; was well known through
out the county, and her numer
ous friends will be shocked and
grieved to hear of her death. Some
time ago she joined the Baptist
Church and has since been an ac
tive member in all church work
and church societies.
Mrs. Yancey is survived by her
mother, seven brothers and three
sisters, her young husband, Mr.
L. D. Yancey and baby boy, besides
a host of friends who mourn her
death. Our sympathies go out to
those in bereavement. '
Some misereant or miscreants
last Wednesday night went through
town and smashed several of our
new street lamps. Just where they
got any fun or pleasure out of such
an act, one canriot imagine, and it
is certain it they are . caught up
with they will be convinced that it
wage not verry ‘funny” after all.

the family of Mr. J. D. Lowe, Sun

Xmas was very quiet here.. W 2
had a nice Xmas tree at Shady
Grove which was highly enjoyed by
all, eepecially the little folks.
Mrs. Ada Johnson and children
from near Roswell, visited the fam
ily of her mother, Mrs. Medford of
this place, last week.
Mr.and Mrs. J. D. Lowe visitedl
r]elatives near Sandy Plains, Mon
day.
Mr.. Rufus Goodson and family
of near Sandy Plains, visited the
family of Mr. Wiley Roberts, last
Tuesday night.
Miss Nannie Vandigriff, of At
lanta, visited her aunt Mrs. J. R.
Guffien last week.
Mr. George Truelove has moved
his family to near Marietta, and
has rented out his farm to Mr.
Edwards.
Mr. Bob Steel has moved to the
Sherman farm near here.
Mrs. Dora Clackum from FEliza
beth, visited home folks Monday.

Mrs. Jane Chalker, wife of the
late Phillip Chalker, died Sunday,
December 26th, aged 87 years. The
funeral was conducted Monday at
the Methodist Church by her pastor,
Rev. A. G. Crawley. The palil
bearers were six of her grandsons,
Messrs. W. P. and J. R. Skelton,
Walter Woodward, Will Bennett.
Frank Gresham and Phillip Brink
ley. Mrs. Chalker reared a large
family who are all dead except
Mrs. J. F. Brinkley, Mrs. Jim
Gresham, Mrs. Charlie Roberts,
Mrs. James Skelton and Mis.
Woodward. There are a number
of grand children and great grand
children and relatives of Mrs.
Chalker who have the sympathy of
the entire community.
Mr. W. H. Benson and Miss
Clara Bennett were married Dec.
26th, by Rev. Mr. Spinks, at the
home of the brides parents, Mr.
and Mrs. H P. Bennett. Mr. and
Mrs. Benson are quite popular
young people and their many
friends wish them much happiness.
One of the twin infants of Mr.
and Mrs. R. L. Pylant was intered
in the cemetery at Mr. J. A. Crow
der’s, Dec. 30th. We deeply sym
pathize with the bereaved parents.
Mrs. J. B. Donaghey, of Acla,
Oklahoma, is visiting her father
Mr. Lee Cassidy and family.
Misses Bertha and Louise Brink
ley spent Saturday in Marietta.
The educational rally Dec. 23rd
at the school house was very in
structive. Ex-Governor Ho k e
Smith and Colonel E. H. Clay
made excellent speeches.
Mr. Lee McClure returned to the
Eclectic Medical College in Atlanta,
Monday.
Mr. J. G. Lewis was elecled
Mayor, Monday, with the same
councilmen.
Mrs. W. P. Whitaker’s many
friends will be glad to know she is
improving after a weeks illness.
Misses Grace Cox and Bessie
Cagle have gone to Atlanta where
they will take positions with the
telephone company.
Mrs. A. G. Rhodes, of Atlanta,
and Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Leathers,
of Villa Rica, have returned home
after visiting Mrs. S. J. Pyron and
family.

Mrs. M. E. Starnes died at the
‘home of her daughter in Atlanta
‘on Friday. The funerai was
preached at the Baptist Church
‘here Sunday and the interment
was in the Davis cemetery. Mrs.
Starnes was 72 years old. She
had for a long time been a consis
tant member of the Baptist
Church. She had lived the
greater part of her life here, being
a daughter of the late Mr, John C.
Lowe. She leaves two daughters
and four sons. We extend our
sympathy to the bereaved.

Waco, Texas daily. “ilr. Cicero
King a very popular young en
gineer of the Houston and Texas
Central, whose home is in Ennis,
quitly and unheralded slipped in
to East Waco, on December 23,
and in a beautiful home wedding
became the husband of Miss
Myrtle Lindley. Miss Lindley is
a niece of Mr. W. H Turner, one
of Waco’s wealthiest and most
prominent citizens, also a niece
of Mrs. R, A Crawford at whose
home the ceremony was per
formed by Rev, Mr. Buchanan,
of the M. E. Church. The hounss
was tastefully decorated with
palms and ferns. Mr. and Mrs.
King left on the ‘‘Katy Limited’’
for Dallas, Tyler and other
cities. They will also visit the
grooms parents, who are very
prominent and wealthy people of
Waxahatchis, Tex."
Miss King is well known and
admired by a host of friends at
Macland and surrounding com
muonities, who cengratulate Mr
King on winning such a good
girl to reign as Queen of his
household. May happiness ever
attend them.

The watch party given at the
residence of Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Fowler last Friday night was
enjoyed by all present, watching
the old year go oat and the new
year coms lin.
Now, as we are entering into a
new yesr, let us all take on new
ccurage and try to improve the
time better than we have done in
the past. -

be a uneighbor yourself, and not
pass them by in apything that
you can avoid.

The singing at Olive Springs
was very well attended on the
last fourth Sunday afternoon. An
election for officers was held and
resulted as follows: Mr. J, A.
York, president, Mr. D, B. Hen
derson, vice-president, Mr. W. R.
York, secretsry, and Mr. R. S.
Lindley and Mr. J, P. York, chap
lains. The choir will meet the
second and fourth Sunday after
noons in each month. We are
now entering into the eleventh
year of the organizasion of the
choir. We hope that every one
who can will attend,

this place. In fact we all had a
nice time with our visiting friends

bors had the misfortune to lose
his overcoat and gloves bv fire one
of the cold days last week. I
bavent heard whether he had
on or not, But if he did, he sure
got warm.
The Christmas tree at Olive
Springs, on Xmas day was largely
attended and enjoyed by all,
After the second song, Mr. R,
S. Lindley the superintendent led
in prayer, After which Mr, S. E.
Cassidy made the welcoming
address. The recitations were
rendered by three girls and one
boy as follows: Miss Corry Cas
gidy, Miss Eva Alexander, Master
J. B. Lindley and Miss Cola
Spears. The little folks waited
patiently for old Santa Claus, to
come in and give ont the presents
that were hanging on the tree for
them. And by the way the old
fellow made his appearance, and
brought one of his sons to help
give out fhe presents. KEvery
thing passed off nicely, and all of
the Sunday School Scholars re
ceived something from the tree
I must not forget to mention
the School remembered the writer
of this item with a nice present
for which the School has my
thanks, May the Lord bless the
one who was 8o kind in vhis re
memberence. The occasion was s
grand success from start to finish,
