Hall Arrested on Hall War
rant.
Paul Hall, at one time a resident of
Hall county, was arrested Friday, on a
warrant sworn out in that county, the
arrest being made by Bailiffs Bishop
and Hicks in the lower end of Cobb
county, where he has been living a year
Or more.
The technical charge against Hall is
that of misdemeanor, but it is claimed
by the Hall county authorities that the
facts as will be developed at the trial
will show an aggravated case of mis
treatment of his wife’s niece, whom he
had taken from the orphana’ home at
Hapeville to his own home in this
county
Upon receipt of notice of the arrest,
Sheriff Crow, of Hall, came after the
prisoner Saturday and carried him to
Gainesville.
'Save the Old Crossties
i Says Governor Brown.
! (From the Atlanta Constitation).
| Governor Joseph M. Brown in his
itmvels over Georgia, has noticed that
where railroads replace yornout crogs
ties with new ties the disearded ties are
Ep;!r‘d up and later burned. The gov
. ernor thought it over,
: Thus it happered thac when General
. Manager T. K. Scott, of the Georgia
Railroad, called upon Governor Brown
| Friday morning. the governor met him
with the following query :
| “Why don’t you railroad people save
those crossties you destroy and instead
of burning them, why don’t you bring
them to Atlanta or fome other conven
jent point along about Christmas time
and tarn them over to charitable assce
eiatwons for distribution among people
who need fire wood?”’
\ Colorel Seott replied that his road
does pursue that poticy, but added
’ that he knew of no other line that does
| Believing it would be a most charit
able act for all railroads to do the same
| thing, the governor stat ¢ he will sub
| mit a communication to representa
| tives of all the railroads in the state
? requesting them to dixpose of all their
discarded crossties in the manner gug
gested instead of destroying them.

~ What has heen the growth of Mari

question frequently asked. It will re

Probably the strongest indieation of
the city’s progress is that of the post
office receipts. These, since 1900, have
steadily increased in volume. At that
time the annual footings were about
$3.,000.
Commencing with 1906, the first
three months of that year show re-

1446. In addition to the natural and
nsual growth. the corporation limits
were extended three or four years ago
one fourth of a mile on three sides,
New houses have been built in all parts
of the city, and there is still a demand
for more,
It is generally belioved the figures
will not fall below 7,500, and that they
may go to 5.000.
This Mule’s Kicking Quali
tics His Only Assct.
A Woodstock eitizen bought several
muales in Atlanta last week, and the
drove made the trip to Cherokee eoun
ty in a quiet, orderly manner Duta
ittle seven hundred pound fellow de
veloped wonderful kicking qualities to
stich an extent tuat he wes regarded
43 absolutely worthless for farming or
any other purpose, and the Woodstock
man determined he would return the
little kicker to his former owner in At
lanta.
It was here he began to give sure
enough trouble. The negro undertak
ing the task of the return trip reported
the mule’s heels were in the air nine
tenths of the time in making the jour
ney to Marietta. When he reached
hare, an amateur cow boy took him in
charge, and it was then the little mule
began to show the erowd on the south
side of the public equsre just what he
ecould do in the kicking line. A circus
trick mule wasn’t in his class av all.
The trip to Atlanta was finally aban
doned, and the mule returned to Wood
stoek a 8 quietly as he had made his
tormer trip there.
