Band Completes Contract
and Receives Thanks of
Citizens’ Committee.
Nothing has added more to the
‘pleasure of the people and the vigitors
to Marietta during the now closing
summer season than the delightful
semi-weekly concerts in the City Park.
Aside from the music itself, these
concerts have been the means of bring
ing the people together in social inter
course, affording opportunities for
meeting and knowing each other—
opportunities only too rare in town
life.
The Gem City band is one of the
foremost volunteer organizations of
the kind in the State. The work is
kept up and maintained as it should
be, each member appreciating the fact
that a band is only as strong as its
weakest member, and in this way all
feel the responsibility resting upon
them.
During the recent visit of officers
and members of the Sovereign Lodge
of Odd Fellows, many were the,
complimentary expressions in refer-l
ence to the musical program rendered]
on that occasion.
The band having completed the
number of concerts agreed upon, the
citizeng committec has settled with
them, and made report thereon, as
follows:
Marietta, Ga., Sept. 26th, 1910.
We, the committee who solicited
subscriptions for music in the City
Park and collected the same, beg to
submit the following report:

we wish to thank the Mayor and
Council and the citizens who subscrib

likewise thank the band for the ex

“The Master Preacher,”
By Rev. Albert Bond.
““The Master Preacher, A Study of
the Homiletics of Jesus,”” by Albert
Richmond Bond, A. M, D. D., intro
duction by Edwin Charles Dargan,
| D. D, LL. D, is a new volume.
l Dr. Dargan says in the introduction:
| “In the vast literature in which
every aspect of the life and work of
!Jesus has been presented, it is re
l markable that, comparatively, so little
appears on the subject of this volume.
If there are any books whose sole and
distinctive theme is the preaching of
Jesus, viewed in what may be called
its homiletical phase, I am not ae
quainted with them. There is, there
ifore, an open and visible place in
Christian literature for such a study
’as Dr. Bond has given us in this treat
‘ise. The author’s wide reading is ap
‘parent, but he hag not been content to
‘be a follower only. And so, in addi
tion to its general and special value as
a contribution to & want in our litera
‘ture, the discussion has a newnessand
‘suggestiveness of its own.”’
Dr. David James Burrell,of the Mar
'ble Collegiate Church, New York, au
}thor of the ‘“Wonderful Teacher,”
[“Christ and Progress,’’ etc., who read
‘the manuscript, wrote to the author as J‘
follows: |
‘I have never reviewed a book that
80 strongly appealed to me, or one toi
which I took fewer exceptions. I have
just stepped out of the Chair of Homi
letics at Princeton (Theological Semi
nary) and regret your book was not
issued in time to help me there.’’
The book is intended to discuss
Jesus as a preacher- (American Tract

Bears can climb well if little. but |
