Miss Screven’s Bridge Party
For Miss Elizabeth King.
Miss Jule Screven’s bridge party
on Tuesday of last week was a pretty
compliment to Miss Elizabeth King,
of Jacksonville, Fla., the guestof Miss
Josephine Dobbs. The color scheme
was pink ard white and was carried
out even to the score cards, which
were cunning sunbonnet girls. Miss
Eloise Brown made highest score, win
ning the prize, one of the new books,
which she presented to the honor guest.
Those enjoying the afternoon were
Miss Eddie Hunter, of Decatur, Misses
Vivian Strong, Eloise Brown, Mildred
Brown, Josephine Dobbs, Isabel Brum
by, Elizabeth Reynolds, Rosa Willing
ham, Frances Law, Henrietta Black,
Pauline Corley, Mrs. Floyd Northcutt,
Mre, Graham Sullivan and Mrs, Ralph
Northcutt.
Lewis-Burwell.
Miss Anne Hume Lewis, of Balti
more, Maryland, is visiting her sister,
Mrs. Charles Noyes Tyndell, at the
rectory, 302 Green street, Fayetteville,
N. C., where she will remain until the
sth of November, on which date the
wedding of herself and Mr. Robert
Lemon Burwell is t 0 take place, No
cards are to be issued.
Miss Lewis is the daughter of Col.
Robert Hume Lewis, formerly of Win
chester, Virginia. Her mother was
Miss Ann Cary Randolph, second
laughter of Beverly Raudolph Jones,
Egq., of Winchester.
Mr. Burwell is the eldest son Mrs.
Augusta Somervil Burwell, and the
late Elliott H. Burwell, Esq., of West
River, Anne Arundel county, Mary
land, Mr. Burwell is a civil engineer,
having a position in the Baltimore
water department.
The marriage ceremony will be per
formed by her brother-in-law, the Rev.
Charles Noyes Tyndell, at St. John’s:
Episcopal church, after which they
will leave fcr the South, and be at
at home at 1405 Park avenue, Balti
more, Maryland, after Decemer Ist.
A Spend the Day Pariy.
Mrs. Will Florence complimented
her guests, Mrs. J. B. Futral and Miss
Sallie Florence, with a spend-the-day
party last Friday. The day was a jewel
of sunbeams and zephyrs on the bosom
of Madame October, the most charm
ing of the round dozen sisterhood of
months, and the decorations were ap
propriate. |
On the front veranda great vasesl
filled with yellow field flowers mingled
with the potted foliage plants. Indoors
the rich yellow of goldenrod brighten
ed all of the rooms and formed the
canierpiece for the luncheon.
Odene Florence recesived the guests
and was prettily dressed in white with
yellow ribbons. Mrs. Florence and all
the guests were also in white and
Odene arranged sprays of goldenrod in
their hair and as corsage bouquets.
All brought faney work and chatted
ot new hats until lunch time, when
the window shades came down, electrie
starg twinkled and a softly beaming
harvest moon appeared above the table
in the dining-room.
All the china was white and gold and
the finger bowls were brass on white
lace doilies. Yellow-tinted leaves of
celery garnished the dishes of fried
chicken and potato eroquettes and the
relishes were celery tips, olives and
pickles. Rice, hot biscuit, butter,
crackers, pineapple salad with yellows
of eggs, followed. White and yellow
layer eake and yellow icecream finished

week-end with Miss Christine Dobbs.

spent Sunday in Athens. Mrs. Gants
is spending the week with her aunt,
Mrs. Wallis, in Elberton.
—Mrs. Margaret Holmes is in
Lawley, Ala., for a visit of several
weeks to her son, Mr. Trezevant
Holmes,

Camp, last week.

with a 42 party Thursday alternoon,
inviting only a few young matrons.
Golden Rod and Black-Eyed-Susans
decorated the rooms and the score
cards were adorned with yellow blos
soms. After the game a salad course
and fruit punch were served.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Henderson and
Mr.and Mrs. C. P. Stephens motored to
the Chattahoochee Thursday and
spent the beautiful day fishing. A
fine variety of nice fish rewarded their
patience and were fried at the river.
Coffee was also made and a picnic din
ner enjoyed, The ladies caught a few
fish and their experienced husbands
were very successful, bringing some
fine big fish home for supper.
—Miss Mary Baldwin, of Atlanta,
was the guest of honor ata 42 party
given by Mrs. Len Baldwin Wednes
day morning. Her pretty home was
decked in pink and white roses and
dahlias, and each guest was favored
with a pink cochet rose. A salad
course followad the game, The guests
were Mrs. W, E. Schilling, Misses
Annie and Lucy Gilbert Irma Neal,
Nellie Bryan, Matt and Florrie Black,
Lottie Lou Murray, Aurelia White,
Edna and Julia Schilling.

Death of Mrs. Armstrong.
Mrs, Luther Armstrong died at noon
Friday at hcr home in Allatoona alter
an illness of two months, The funerai
was conducted by Rev. Mr, Morgan
and the interment was in Acworth Sat
urday morning.
Mrs. Armstrong was Miss Effie An
dry Green, daughter of Mr, and Mrs,
G. W. Green, of Marietta. She leaves
two daughters, one six and the other
three years old. She was a member of
the Baptist church and was greatly be
loved by many friends.
Mr. R, H. Northcutt attended her
funeral and paid a fine tribute to her
lovely Christian character, He was her
Sunday school teacher for a long time
and appreciated her sweetness of dis
position and the nobility of her nature,
She was a patient sufferer and was
resigned to the release from pain.
A number of Marietta and Acworth
friends attended the funeral.
