Mr. J. E. McKenney spent a few
days recently in Atlanta with his
brother, Rev. J. L. McKenney, of
Alabama, who is quite ill.
Miss Estelle Leake is visiting in
Atlanta this week.
Married—Miss Elouise Florence
and Mr. Clifford Nestlehutt both of
thie place were married here Satur
day ‘afternoon. They left for a
short stay in Atlanta and now are
with Mr. Nestlehutt’s parents for a
while. The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Florence

Mr. H. H. Howell, of Vidalia, re
cently elected to the Science Depart
ment in the High School graduates
this summer at Emory College with
the Ph. B. degree. He has specialized
in science and has had practically the
same work as is given in the B. 8.
course. He will spend the summer
at the University of Chicago, still‘
further fitting himself for the work.

Electric Company.
The Georgia Power company is com
ing to Marietta. Either Tallulah
Falls or the Etowah river will turn
wheels in the Gem City and light some
of the stores and residences.
The Georgia Power company is de
veloping Tallulah Falls, and will, it is
understood, soon begin the construc
tion of an immense dam a few miles
above Cartersville, on the Etdéwah,
where two mountains coming together
afford an opportunity for a dam that
will make a lake many miles in
length. On the spot, years ago, there
was a town of five thousand popula
tion, but the industries there were de
stroyed by Sherman, and nothing now
marks the spot except the ruins,
which will be submerged by the lake
soon to be constructed.
For some days representatives of
the Power company have been in
Cobb county obtaining a right-of-way
for the electric wires that are to bring
the electricity into Marietta. The sur
veys have been made and a two-acre
site near the edge of the city, on the
old Page place, on Page street, has
been bought. Clay & Morris are ex
amining the titles to the various
pieces of property that are to be ac
quired.
From the plant on the Etowah elec
tricity will be sent to Kingston, Rome,
Cartersville, Acworth, Kennesaw, Ma
rietta, Atlanta and other points.
It is expected that the plant wili be
in operdtion by July of next year.
Marieta is in a fair way to have
electricity “to burn.” There will be
the Kennesaw Paper company, the
city’s own plant, and the Georgia Fow
er company. It is said that electricity
from water power can be manufac
tured much cheaper than by steam.
Poseibly the city or the Kennesaw
Paper company, or both, will take
electricity from the Power company,
in which event the city's plaqnt would
be kept in reserve, to be used in case
of break-down of the lines of the Pow
er company,
Teachers Institute. ]
The Cobb County Teachers Institute
will be held at the Public School build
iug in Marietta June 12th to 17th in
clusive. The Board of Education re
quires all teachers, whether principal
or assistants, to attend this meeting.
The examination for License to teach
will be conducted the 16th and 17th,
and all parties expecting to teach will
be required to take the examination
unless they already have licenses that
have not expired.

Mr. McClatchey was grand herald
last year, and at this meeting was
elevated one office. He is very popu
lar in the Grand Lodge of Georgia,
and it is a compliment to a man of
his age to receive this high office.
There are in Georgia over six hun
dred lodges and over forty thousand
Odd Fellows, and to secure a Grand
lL.odge office means that some day he
will be grand master and at the head
of the order.
Mr. McClatchey is manager of the
Bell Telephone company and secre
tary of the Chamber of Commerce,
and president of the Methodist Baraca
class in Marietta, and all his friends
are complimenting him on his suc-
