which meets in Augusta uext week. ‘
Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Robeson are hav
ing extensive changes made in their
beautiful country place. The interior
of the house will be entirely refinished.
Mrs. Neufville, who died in Atlanta
Monday, was buried in the city cem
etery Wednesday. Dean Pise and Rev.
E.S. Doan conducted the funeral from
St. James Church.
Mrs. Paul Charles Pernelle iz with
her aunt, Mrs. Heggie. She and her
husband will sail from New York to
Havre, France, in a few weeks t
spend the surnmer.
Mr. and Mrs. George Williams, of
Charleston, who were recently guests
of Miss Henrietta Black have moved to
Wartrace, Tenn., where Mr. Williams
has bought a stock farm.

Mrs. R. T. Nesbitt attended the
reunion in Macon in which she was
prominent and greatly admired as she
presided over a meeting of U. D. C,
and sons of veterans together.
Mrs. A. D. Smith, of Mineral Wells,
Texas, who has been the admired guest
of Mrs. Tasker Camp for several weeks,
has gone to Asheville, N. C., to spend
a short while before returning home.
Mr. S. O. Brock, of Long Key, Fla.,
was a guest of Miss Nettie Looney
Thursday en route to Louisville, Ky.,
Miss Aldine Brock will remain in the
city this week as Miss Looney’s guest.

Mrs. C, B. High, of Hartsville, Tenn.,
is visiting Mrs. Kate Manning. Just
three years ago Mr. Cecil Manning was
seriously ill in Hartsville and Mrs. High
cared for him until the arrival of his
mother with a trained nurse,
A great many veterans and other
visitors have gone from Cobb County
to Macon to enjoy the reunion. Two of
the prettiest girls there are from Ma
rietta—Miss Regina Rambo and Miss
Morris.

news that he has been anthorized to
fill in the lily pond in the federal
;‘cemetery. This small pool of half
stagnant water has been a nest for
‘mosquitoes and the beauty of its lilies
could not heal the stings of its midnight
musicians.
Belmont College will close the 22nd
of May but Miss Agnes Smith has ac
cepted an invitation to a house party to
be given several Belmont girls and
Vanderbilt boys by Miss Esther Bas
kette at her country home near Nash
ville, so it will be the middle of June
before Miss Smith will arrive in Mari
etta.
Mrs. Y. B. Organ and Miss Ruby
Taylor, sponsor and maid of honor for
the F. G. Sheppard Camp, of Lebanon,
Tenn; spent a few days with Mrs. E. L.
Robertson on their way to Macon. On
Monday evening = Mrs. Robertson
invited a few friends to enjoy a pro
gram of classical music by Miss Taylor
on the violin and Mrs. Y. B. Organ on
the piano.
Mrs. Duval is keeping house under
difficulties. When the parsonage was
moved from Atlanta street to Anderson
street the track lay across a garden
and the mover’s jacks sank into the
soft earth with results disastrous to the
parsonage. A great deal of the plas
tering has fallen and the old parsonage
will have to be very thoroughly renova
ted before it will be comfortable.
Mrs. Morgan McNeel gave a bridge
and buffet supper Friday evening to
about twenty couples. The veranda
was enclosed and tables placed there
also. Beautiful clusters of pink wigelia
decorated the house everywhere. Mr.
Tom Brumby, jr., won the men’s prize
which was silken hosiery and Mrs. T.
R. Patterson won the lady’s prize which
was three beautiful embroidered hand
kerchiefs.
Mr. and Mrs. W, E. Edmonston, of
Houston, Texas, were recent guests of
Mr. M. G. Whitlock and of Mr. and
Mrs. R. H. Northcutt. During the
visit Mr. Edmonston called to see his
old friend, the Marietta Journal, and
left his card in the form of a crisp five
dollar bill for five years subscription.
Cobb county men are fine on their ‘‘na
tive heath,”” but when they go to Texas
and get rich they are princely indeed.

E DEATH OF MRS. HESS HANEY.
i Mrs. Hess Haney died:-Tuesday after
inoon during a surgical operation and
was taken to the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Abercrombie on Roswell
Street soon after. Her uncle, Mr.
Blackwell, held a prayer-service there
Wednesday morning. The burial was
at Mount Bethel and the services were
by Rev. Mr. Early. Many friends at
tended. Mrs. Haney was only twenty
five years old and leaves two little
children, one about two years old, be
side her husband and parents. Her
passing away is a greater shock be
cause her friends were so confident her
health would be restored by the opera
tion, but she sank into the sleep of
death without pain.

OBSERVED SUNDAY.
Sunday, May 12, Mother’s Day will
be observed by the Baraca and Phila
thea classess of the First Baptist
Church, in the church auditorium at
eleven o’clock.
The Baraca and Philathea classes of
the Methodist church have been invited
to woaship with the Baptist Baraca and
and Philathea classes in this observance
of Mother’s Day.
A cordial invitation is extended to
each and every member of the Baptist
Church and congregation, to each and
all of the congregations of the city and
vicinity, and to thsse who are not in
the habit of attending services at any
church.
Men are especially invited, before
leaving home, Sunday morning, pin on
a white fllower and wear it to church.
Everybody is expected to wear a
white flower.
A large attendance is desired on this
occasion. May each one who may. at
tend receive a blessing.

'MISS VIRGINIA BARNES
? BIRTHDAY DINNER.
Miss Virginia Barnes celebrated her
birthday Tuesday evening with a beauti
bul dinner. She wore a blue lingerie
dress embroidered in a darker shade
and the parlor in which she received
her guests was profusely adorned with
Marechal Neil roses. A basket with
abow of pink tulle on the handle was
filled with eighteen superb pink peonies
and stood on a cluny lace mat as a cen
terpice on the dining table which was
set with the same matsand a color
scheme of pink and white was carried
out in the courses of the dinner. Miss
Barnes guests were Miss Angie Field,
Miss Louise McMillian, of Acworth,
Messrs., A. L. Lemon, James C. Orr
and Clyde Davis, of Atlanta.
After the dinner a delightful evening
was spent.

l PASSED AWAY SATURDAY
George, the two-year old son of Mr.
and Mrs. G. H. Barnes died Saturday
morning at 8 o’clock after a brief ill
ness and was buried in the city ceme
l tery Sunday morning at 9 a’cloek. Dr,
J. H. Patton conducted the service
reading comforting passages from the
scriptures and making a suitable and
beautiful address. Mrs. Patton, Mrs.
