The boys at this place played a game of ball last Saturday with the Mableton boys. Our boys won by a score of 10 to 9. Miss Mary and Zemmar Redd, of Riverside, spent a few days with their relatives at Deluce, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Cole, of Ball Ground, have been visiting their caughter, Mrs. Ina Andrews, at this place. Mr. Albert McLain, of Millstead, Ga., spent Saturday and Sunday with his parents, | Quite a number of people at tended the barbecue at this place last Thursday; had fine music and a jolly good time. We are very sorry to say that Yiitle Virginia Wolford is very ill with fever. We hope she will be better soon. ‘ Rev. S. T. Gilland filled his regu ar appointment here last Sunday, 1 Mrs. Ralph Benton, of Rock Hiil, S. C.,, visited Mrs. Jackson Eenton here last week. Mrs. W. W. McKenzie here last week. : Mr. and Mrs. Perry Castleberry, of Marietta, spent a few days with relatives here last week. Little Ettie and Essie Nix, of Atlenta, spent Saturday and Sun day with their grandmother, Mrs. M. U. Riddling. : Mrs. Charles Fowk spent a few days with her parents at East Point last week. Mrs. Jerry Redd, of Simsville, spent one day last week with her daughter, Mrs. Augusta Haynie. Mrs. R. J. Wright and family are spending a few days in Cordele, Ga., with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Thad Austin spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Steve Austin and family. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Adair and children visited Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Adair and family Monday. Miss Gertrude Lacy visited Miss Ethel Austin Saturday night. Mr. Chester Austin and Misses Lenettie and Eloise Adair visited Mr. Walter Adair and family Sun day. Mr. Lon Brock and his mother attended preaching at Aecworth Sunday. Rev. F. M. Lacy preached at Mount Zion Sunday. We are sorry to know Mr. Steel of this place is very low at this writing. We hope for him a speedy recovery. Mr. Dickson is some better. His many friends hope to see him out again. School will begin at Mount Zion near Mr. Dickson’s next Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Allison Harrison spent Monday at his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison. Mr. Z. W. Adair and his little granddaughter, Bertha Lacy, visited Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mitchell of Ma rietta Monday night. Crops are looking very well in this section after so much rain, We are having a good Sunday School and a large crowd at this place now. - Prayer meeting every Sunday night. Gault and children, of Atlanta, spent the week end in Smyrna the guests of Mrs. S. F. Stephens, Mrs. Gantt’s 'mother. i Mrs. E. M. Burdsall, of Lyons» Ind, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs. S. N, Yeomans. Mr. Charlie Dußignon, who was struck by a pitched ball and pain fully injured about two weeks ago, is able to be out again. Mrs. Alice Durham, of Mena, Ark, is visiting relatives here. Smyrna Fouth of July Club en joyed its annual outing and fish frey at the Johnson farm last Thurs day, notwithstanding the threaten ing weather about six families were present and had a very pleasant day. ‘ Dr. and Mrs. W. Johnson, of At lanta were the recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Matthews. The ball team of J. M. High Co. of Atlanta played a double-header with the Smyrna aggregation on the 4th—winning both games, the scores being 3 to 1 and 3 to 0, too bad. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. B. McKinney, who have been visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs C. G. Matthews, have returned to their home at Austell. One of our young men took a wagon load of fine peaches to At lanta one day last week, thinking Atlanta was fruit hungry and he would find a ready market but he says, after the hardest days work he has ever put over in his life, he finally got rid of his load; got back late at night weary and worn, and about $1.30 to the good—Peaches, bah! Never again! Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Magill and family spent last Sunday with friends in Atlanta. CRITIC. NEW HOPE. 1 Miss Bennie Frey who has been holding a position in Atlanta is at home for a few weeks. Misss Willie Lee of Atlanta spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. A. A. Mayes. Our Sunday school at this place is doing good work, come out and join us. Mis Mae Wright of Atlanta is visiting her cousin, Miss Ada Franklin. Mr. Edgar Mayes, who is now holdlng a position with the Castner knott firm in Nashville, Tenn. spent the past week with homefolks. Miss Jennie Lou Hamby celebrat ed her eighteenth birthday at her home Saturday evening. Daisies and ferns adorned the parlor. Miss Hamby wore white and never look ed more lovely than on this nlght. There were six couples who found each other by watching numbers. After the games refreshments were served and a pleasant evening was spent. | The singing given by Misss Bennie Frey Sunday night was enjoyed by all. | Mr. Julius MeClung, of Atlanta, visited Mr. Otis Hamby recently. Mr. Joe Hamby is spending his vacation at home. GEM. MOUNT OLIVET. Mr. Swinnil, of Rockmart, open ed his school at Mount Zion Mon day morning with a good attend ance. We think he is the right man in the right place. Mr. Tom Sorells and Miss Inez Dickson, Miss May Dickson, spent Wednesday night in Marietta at Mr, Charlie Dickson. Mr. Tom Dewberry and wife spent Sunday with Mrs. Brock. Mrs. Ethridge and children re turned to Atlanta Saturday, We are glad to see Mr. D. W. Dickson out again. Mr. Monroe Steele is improving. ~ Mr. Alison Harrison and wife spent Sunday with Mr. Frank Har rison. ’ The farmers in this section are using the sunshine in saving the ‘hay that is in their crops. They ,\\'i’.l dig it out and kill it and then go to'town and buy a load of hay ’:m«.l haul it to feed with, when they had plenty of the same grass in their fields. I COME AGAIN. Bentley. Misses Kate Durham and Lois Westmoreland have returned from a visit to relatives in Carrollton and Atlanta, Mrs. Bob Bentley spent last week with Mrs, G. B. Bentley. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hunter spent Sunday with Mr. J. P. Dur ham. Miss Susie Booth opened her school at Noonday Academy Monday morning, Rev. E. M. Dyer and his brother, Paul, of Marietta, spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr. Will Latimer. Mr. and Mrs. John Kemp spent Sunday with Mr. William Gresham. Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Mr. Emmet Langley, of Atlanta, visited his brother, Mr. E. H. Lang ley, of this place, Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Glen Barfield visited Mr. Roy Black Saturday night. Mr. Walker Akins visited his brother, Mr. Charlie Akins Sunday. Mr. Lee Black and wife visited his sister, Mrs. S. B. Webb near‘ Sardis Sunday. | Mrs. Kate Black goes visiting most every day. | The singing,at Mr. W. A. Lacy’s Saturday night was enjoyed by all present. There will be a singing at Mr. J. D. Dunn’s Saturday night, every body invited. The farmers in this section spent the 4th in the fields. PET. OEINVIELE, Everything is very quiet and very wet around Olinville just now, The Sunday School and Epworth League are both running slowly. Mr. H. P. Sauls is reported a little better though very ill and helpless. Mr. L. B. Robeson is still adding to and renovating his fine dwelling in East Marietta known as the Bird Wallace place. Alvin, the little son of Mr. R. E. Scoggins is quite sick with typhoid. Also two small children of Mr. Charlie Bohler are ill of the same fever. Mrs. L. B. Robeson is visiting her mother, Mrs. Holtzelaw, in Houston County, near Perry. Mrs. Lum Foster is still very low, probably in the last stage of con sumption. MENTOR. DUE WEST. ‘The Fourth of July singing at the court house was well attended trem this section. Messrs. B. W. Griggs and T. J. Helton, of Due West; Mr. Ben Stanley, of Kennesaw, and Mr. A. . Talley, of Mourtain View, four baptist deacons, will go before a wcorgia legislature committee to torrow in the interest of the Bap tist church of Kennesaw. Mr. Bob Rolins, of Hiram, has rented Mrs. C. W. Ellis’ farm for another year. Messrs. Esmer and Roy Bullard made two trips to Atlanta last week with peaches. Mr. Troy Kitchen, of LaGrange, has been the recent guest of Mr. J. W. Kitchens and family. One of the most striking events here of late was the Fourth of July. Quite a lot of disturbance was crea ted at the colored picnic, where shooting, cutting, fighting and the using of profane language took place. One boy was severely stab bed. After several men were depu tized to render assistance to the of ficers, they became quiet. Miss Annie Lee Baldwin has re turned home after a pleasant visit to her sister in Atlanta. Miss Minnie Baldwin visited Mrs, W. P. Burnett, of Atlanta, Friday. Misses Lillie Mae and Edna Wil liams, of Acwoth, spent the week end with Miss Gradye Conner. Mr. Ernest Cagle was called to South Georgia Sunday, where he will engage in the banking business for a short while. Miss Jennie Carrie is spending a delightful period with Miss Cleo Craig, of Atlanta. The Baptist and Methodist churches of Kennesaw have organ ized a choir which we hope will be a great success. They will meet and sing every first and third Sun day afternoons. Everybody is cor dially invited to join us, as singing is on a backward progression in Kennesaw. Conner’s family. Mrs. Lopez Conner, her mother, came with her, but has returned home. . Mr. Ernest Gatlin had 4ds his guest Thursday Mr. Claud Gatlin, of Marietta. Miss Lucia Butler has returned home after spending a delightful week in Atlanta the guest of rela tives and friends. Mrs. Oscar Lewis had as her guest Sunday Mr. Denard Fuller, of Sardis. ‘Mr. S. J. Baldwin made a busi ness trip to Atlanta Tuesday. - Miss Effie Lunsford, of Acworth, tnade Misses Irene and Lois Hill a brief visit last week. Mr. Weldon and little daughter, Net, have been the recent guests of Mr. C. G. Hill’s family. Miss Emma McClesky, of Wood stock, is visiting Miss Hettie Mae McClesky. - We are sorry to note the absence of Mr. Herbert Williams from among us. e has accepted a posi tion as teacher in Cherokee. The Lost Mountain and Due West schools will not open until July the 15th on account of the people being behind with their work. Mr. Clarence Bullard of Jackson ville, Fla. is spending a few days with his parents. The season has been so wet the present crop is liable to shrink, in fact some of it has already shrunk. The showers are damaging the fruit. We don’t see any laying by time ahead. #When we finish work at one side of the field the other side will do to commence gathering. ALLEN. ’ SHADY GROVE. On account of the secretary being away and not getting the literature in time, there was no Sunday schoo! Sunday. Everybody forgot the singing here Sunday afternoon, and went to Sandy Plains, Mrs. Ethel Maddox and children, Preston and Fred 8., of Turnerville, are spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Maddox. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Benson and daughetr, Miss Ruby, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Fowler. Mrs. H. T. Howard, of Atlanta, spent last week with her sister, Mrs. 3. T. Griggs. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ben King on the 25th of June, a fine son. Mr. B. F. Proctor and family had as their guests Sunday Mrs. Leila Phagan, of Mountain View, and Misses Lula and Sarah Manning.
