Marietta Boy Scouts Go Down
to Atlanta and March With
Corn Club Boys.
Atlanta, Augusta and Columbus
have recently held shows of corn
grown by the boys of the corn clubs
formd last spring all over the state.
Arthur Hill of Early County made
233 3-7 bushels of corn on one acre.
Ralph Whaley, of Fayette County
died about two weeks before the
show in Atlanta but his corn was ex
hibited with that of his club.
A wreaht of roses was placed on
his mound of corn by Mr. Walter
Cooper and 25 men afterward each
pinned a dollar bill to the wreath to
be used in erecting a grave stonel‘
over this brave boy who fell by the
way while striving to win in agood!
cause. There were a great many boysi
who gathered 100 bushels from ono|
acre and these boys were organizod}
into boy scouts. Marietta's boy scouts
went down to march with the corn
club boys, carrying their beautiful
United States flag and a banner.
Two of these scouts are Marietta
Journal boys—Frank Ferris and
Wiley Blair, who go to the High
School and in the aternoon work in
the newspaper business.
There were only two Cobb County
boys sending exhibits to the corn
show. These were Bartlett Arnold
of Lost Mountain and Lee Wilkie of
Bells Ferry road. Owing to exces
sive rains these boys were not very
successful. ;

They write that their people are of the progressive type and surely they are.
WHAT THEY HAVE DONE: -
40 miles cement sidewalks. 12 miles paved streets. $90,000.00 more to be spent on streets in 1913,
Automobile Fire Department.
Citizens donated $70,000.00 for Y. M. C. A. Building. _
Home capital this year constructed street railway system.
['ax returns for 1912 one million dollars more than 1911.
Population increase from 1900 to 1910, 14 per cent. (Marietta’s increase was 7 per cent.)
They expect to double their population by 1920.
The progress made by cities and counties as mentioned in our advertisements is food for thought. What
have we been doing? How much are our values increasing? Are we “of the progressive type?”
[t}is time and high time that we were awake--up and doing. Will you favor such improvements as will make
you'money and add to the comforts of your family and friends?
Marietta is naturally the prettiest City of Georgia. What are her people goingito do? Whatlaboutour body
giving a smoker to men and women, that we can talk about the situation face to face? Would_you favor this?
Be on hand and bring your neighbor.

The design of the

so..
No. 800 is the great

in a 25 cent half-hose.
There is black, tans,
