MRS. W. A. BISHOP HURT.

Monday morning Mrs. W. A. Bishop“
was opening a door for her cow to
come through when the impatient ani
mal caught her horns in the lady’s
coat and tossed her up, then thrust hex-1

thinks she will soon recover although
she is suffering considerably from

THREE CHEERS FOR
GOVERNOR BROWN.
Ithas often happened that mayors and
even governors have pardoned offen
ders serving time in prisons on christ
mas as kings do when an heir to the
throne is born. Governor Brown has
been greatly annoyed recently by impor
tunities for clemency solely because it
would be so befitting the Christmas sea
son. He declares he will not use his
pardening power to gain personal popu
larity, and continues:
. ‘I was not elected by the people of
Georgia to so use their executive office
as to earn the name of being a merciful
governor. On the contrary, I was ¢ho
sen by the people to be a just governor;
and by no means can I more deservedly
hold the latter title than by upholding
the decrees of the courts. I ecannot
suggest to the courts what penalties
shall be applied to law-breakers, but I
can enforce the judgments of the
courts to the extend that I can refuse
to place executive clemency between
the judgments of the courts and the
criminal element upon whom those
jud%menta are pronounced.
‘“For the above reasons I must state
