VO 47,
DRY WEATHER CAUSES
SHORTAGE IN WATER
Sprinkling Streets and Gardens Getting
Ahead of Water Supply---New Well
Being Bored and There Will Be Plenty of
Water For Everybody in a Few Days.
Consumers Requested to Be
Careful Until New Well
Is Completed.
To our water customers:
The Board of Light and Water
WVorks regret that it became neces
sary to send out notices to our pat
rons requesting that they discontin
ue using the city water for street
garden and lawn sprinkling. We
have had the dryest April in 30
years and on this account the con
sumption was so greatly increased
that although our supply from the
wells remains the same, yet such an
unexpected consumption ran our sup
ply very low. In order to accumulate
the necessary reserve volume of wat
er for fire protection, we were forced
to ask our patrons to be as econom
ical as possible with the water for the
present, until we catch up again or
antil further notice is given.
We are so glad to see our patrons
strictly complying with our request
and we thank them for their co-op
aration. In order to prevent such a
shortage ever arising again, the
Board has contracted for the sinking
)f another well which will be begun
today (Wednesday) and will be fin
shed within twenty days. Although
f it rains this will not be absolute
ly necessary as we will easily catch
ap with the water supply but we ar«
loing this in order to prevent any
rouble in the future.
We realize- that vomp]ying with
this reqguest will inconvenience our
water patrons to some extent but we
know they will appreciate the fact
that at all times we must reserve
sufficient water for fire protection.
Jur protection so far as fighting fire
is concerned is the same as it has
always been and the only difference
being that the pressure now will be
furnished direct from pumps but will
e just as strong as formerly.
All we ask of you is to be patient
for a few days and use as little water
as possible until we can catch up a
zain with our water reserve and we
inow that you will cheerfully co
operate with us to this end.
Very respectfully,
The Board of Lights & Water Works.
