Monday was the 21st birthday of
Mr. Charlie Brown and was celebrat
ed with a family dinner Governor
and Mrs. Brown coming home from
their farm and Miss Cora Brown
accompanying her brother home from
Athens where they are still in
school.

Dr. C. H. Field, of Clearwater;
Fla., was in Marietta Saturday greet
ing his many friends. He is looking
extremely well and reports his fam
ily well and happy in their new
home, but Dr, Field’s visit was a
sad one to him, as he came in re
sponse to a telegram announcing
that his mother had fallen and
broken one of her hips. As she is
eighty-two years old nothing can be
done to restore her. We regret that
such a sorrow has come to Dr. Field
and all his friends will join us in
sympathy for his mother. .

Last Sunday morning Miss Nancy
Green and Mr. Robert Guffin were
married at the bride’s home near
New Salem by Rev. M. F, Waddell.
The marriage was unexpected and
only the nearest relatives were pre
sent. The bride who is always
pretty and very attractive girl, was
lovely in a blue suit with hat and
gloves to match and her boquet was
of white roses. Miss Nan Cox was
the maid of honor and Mr. W. O.
Green, brother of the bride, was
best man. After the ceremony
the bridal pair went for a brief
visit to the br!degroofn‘s mother,
Mrs. J. R. Guffin, after which they
will go to Clanton Ala., where Mr.
Guffin is in the insurance business
to make their home.
As Miss Nancy Green the bride was
the Marietta Journa’ls correspondent
at New Salem and her departure lea
ves a vacant chair in the papers fam
ily = circle. We join the many
friends of Mr. and Mrs. Guffin in
wishing for them all possible happi
ness and prosperity in their new
home and hope they will come back
now and then on visit's to Marietta
and Cobb County.
HALLOWE'EN PARTY FOR TWO
SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
Last Friday evening the girls in
Miss Emily Griffin’s class at the
Methodist Sunday School and the
boys in Miss Emma May Rambo’'s
class were invited to a Hallowe’en
party at Dr. Rambo’'s.
All the children were disguised as
ghosts in whité draperies and only
their bright eyes could be seen.
There were 30 in all and they sat on
the rugs in the reception hall while
ghost stories were told and refresh
ments of hot chocolate, cheese straws,
apples, candy and nuts were served.
Their fortunes were told and every
one enjoyed the evening heartily.
Mrs. George Cardy returned to her
home, -in Jacksonville, Fla., a few
days ago with her lovely little daugh
ters, Edith ‘and Dorothy. They
spent last summer in Marietta with
Mrs. A. A, Bishop and the previous
summer with Misses Towers, and
formed many friendships. With her
two pretty children Mrs. Cardy made
a most charming picture. She was
a dainty little figure, always in
white, and will be welcomed with
the roses, we hope, again next sum
mer.
Mrs. Bird Rainey has returned to
Acworth, after a visit of several
weeks with Mrs. John Awtrey,
Mrs. A, H. Daniel, of Grovania, is
visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ruther
ford Brown.

Miss Jean Wallace leaves in a few
days for Athens, to spend some time
with Miss Lucile Harris and Miss
Luey Viek,
. Mrs. Thomas Brumby, Jr., at
tended the Hallowe'en party given
by her mother, Mrs. James R. Gray,
last Thursday evening at ‘Grey
stone”’ for Mrs. Walker Inman Grey.
It was a splendid social event. Mrs,
Brumby wore white satin draped in
black tulle and finished with fur.

Mrs. W. J. Milner entertained a
large house party last week at her
home, in Atlanta. Her guests at
tended a matinee, a football game
and had a chafing-dish supper, at
which the twenty-five young men
and maidens prepared the delicious
viands with zest and merriment.
Among the girls were Misses Jean
Wallace, Christine Dobbs, Virginia
and Augusta Cohen.
Marietta friends of Miss Adeline
Dobbs will be interested in the news
of her approaching marriage to Mr.
R. B. Wingate, of Athens, which
will take place on the evening of
November 17. Miss Dobbs is a sis
ter of Mrs. W. A. Sams and a daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Dobbs,
of Athens. She is a very charming
girl, of attractive personality and
lovable disposition.
MISS FOSTER'S MUSICALE.
On Tuesday, October 28, Miss
Maud Foster’s music class gave a
recital, which was enjoyed by all the
guests invited. The parlors were
decorated with foliage, plants and
vases of roses. The first musician
was little Pauline Read, only daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Read, who
is not much past six and small for
hex: age. Then came little Frances
Smith, who is seven and very large
for her years; then Mary Louise
Brumby, who has been taking les
sons a long time for such a little
girl. All the pupils are girls except
Mrs. W. A. Gatlin and Mrs. Pierre
Camblos, and everyone played well
except Miss Harriet Maddox, who had
sprained one of her thumbs and was
excused.
