Christmas passed off unusually quiet. Those who are in the habit of getting ‘“‘booze” got it and got through with it on Sunday, we are glad and sOrry, too, to note. Mrs. Marie Walker, of Macon, Mrs. Jarman and Miss Pauline Cor- Jey, of this place, treated the card class and our little people’s class, about forty in number, to two of the nicest Christmas trees, one for each class, that we have ever had the pleasure of seeing. We certainly ap preciate this kindness. Messrs. M. A. and C. J. Grigss spent Sunday with their father, M. A. A. Griggs, of Macland, who, we are sorry to note, is suffering with gciatic rheumatism. Messrs. J. R. Underwood, C. M. Head, M. A. and C. J. Griggs were present at the Christmas dinner given by Mr. J. R. Griggs at his eles gant home, on Church tsreet, for the official members of the Elizabeth charge. After a great feast of the very best of eatables was served by the hostess, Mrs. Hattie Griggs, as sisted by her daughter, Miss Addie May, and Mrs. Willie Gresham, of Woodstock. Some business was transacted and the remainder of the day was spent in a social way and the meeting was adjourned to meet at the home of Mr. C. M. Head, on Powder Springs street, one year from date. Miss Cora Kilgore, of Atlanta, visited home folks here Christmas. Mrs. Jane Camp and daughter spent Sunday with Mr. Joe Camp, of Carmichels. Mr. D. D. Underwood and family, of Marietta, spent Christmas day with his father and mother. Mr. Jim Camp, of Altanta, is with his mother during the holidays. A good many changes will be made in our community this winter, but not nearly so many of the Nes bittites are on wheels as there was a year ago. DON’T YOU SEE. OLIVE SPRING. Rev. S. E. POWDER SPRINGS. The ladies of the Baptist Church gave their annual bazar and turkey dinner for the benefit of the church here on Thursday and Friday of last week. Everybody reports a good time and plenty of good things to eat. The ladies report quite a suc cess with the financial part, clear ing something like $l5O. ; Mr. Carl Bell, of Atlanta, spent a few days with his parents here re cently. Miss Ethel Butner arrived home Saturday from Macon, Ga., where she is attending school. Miss Nannie Barnes, of Austell, was the guest of Dr. and Mrs. F. P. Lindley Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Stewart enter tained a few of their friends with an “opossum dinner’’ on Sunday. Mr. Mason Florence is spending the Christmas holidays with his parents here, Mr. J. L. Brooks was the guest of friends in Austell Sunday. Mr. J. A. Tilley left Friday for Decatur, to spent the holidays with home folks. Mrs. E. B. Lindley, Mrs. Mamie Mahoney and Mrs. S. E. Smith spent Tuesday in Atlanta. Miss Ella Baggett, of Atlanta, is at home for the holidays. Miss Bernice Buchanan ente:- tained the ‘‘school set” on Saturday evening. Messrs. S. Y. Stribling, J. B. Wing and Nap Rucker and two friends of Atlanta went hunting Monday and killed fifty-six rabbits. ‘ Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wood, Jr., of Atlanta, are in Roswell for the holi days, visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Wing are with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wing, Sr., for the holidays. Mrs. Gilliland and daughter, Kath arine, are visiting her mother, in Roswell. Miss Clifford Pratt, of Decatur, spent the week-end with her grand mother, Mrs. W. C. Baker. Miss Scott will spend the holi days at home, near Lost Mountain. Miss E. A. Smith spent Monday in Atlanta. On Saturday evening at the Bap tist Church the members and other friends gave the pastor, Mr. Crowe, a generoug shower of groceries. Misses Katharine and Frences Simpson are in Roswell tospend the holidays with their grandmother, Mrs. W. C. Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wing and their little son will spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mosher, in Marietta. : Mrs. C. A. Simpson will be with her mother, Mrs. W. C. Baker, for Christmas. At the Presbyterian Church last night there was a most interesting and beautiful Christmas entertain ment given by the Sunday school. The lovely decorations in green, the scintillating star suspended beneath the gasoline globe and the brilliant white light flooding the old churcn made a scene of beauty which was a delight to all. The entertainment was the celebration of the birthday of the King born at Bethlehem nine teen hundred years ago. The gifts were all in white and the classes in order, beginning with the youngest, marched to music past a beautiful white cross in front of the pulpit an & deposited their gifts to the King un til they grew to a Snowy pile of bun dles and boxes at the foot of the cross. These gifts are to be dis tributed to the needy and destitute ones in the name of the King. The church was full almost to overflow ing, the music was fine and the tell ing by the pastor, Rev. R. E. Carson, of the entrancing story by P Nan Dyke of the wise men following the rays of the stars to the baby King as he lay in the manger at Bethlehem. thrilled both old and young. Mr. Archibald Smith is spending a few days in Atlanta with his family. Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Bush gave ther Sunday school classes a party at Mrs. Bush's residence during the holidays. Mrs. Greer is visiting her son in Atlanta. The intermediate department of the Presbyterian Sunday school will have a party given to them New Year’s eve at the residence of Mrs. Jones. : Miss Harriet Hainey, of Atlanta, was the guest of Mrs. Sarah Sher man last week. Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Pratt were the guests of Mrs. W. K. Baker during the holidays. Misses Annie and Marion Sherman have been guests of their grandmoth er, Mrs. Humbree, the past week. Miss Louise Massey, of Atlanta, was the guest of Miss Lucile Wing last week. Miss Kimball, of Columbus, Ga., visited Miss Lulu Roberts during the holidays. Miss Bessie Crowley, of Atlanta, visited Miss Marion Weaver the past week. Miss Lulu Roberts entertained at a delightful party Christmas night in honor of her guest, Miss Kimball. Miss Evelyn Simpson entertained the beginning department of the Presbyterian Sunday school at a party Friday afternoon. S B H MT. ZION. With Brother J. J. Crow in the stand we had a good service, the text being ‘““That Which Ye Sow Ye Shall Also Reap”’—a very fine discourse, handed out in that good natural way of his. We are sorry that Brother Crow can't spend more of his time with usi '‘He 18 Jjust such a fine Christian gentleman, and if we would only do our part we shall surely be blest in our work, and while we have the opportunity it certainly is the time to make good, 89 let us all do better next year than we have this year. Our school will open up about the first Monday in January. We hope everybody will lend a helping hand and make the school a success, as we have had no fall school. Some of the children have been in school but most of them have just been wasting time. Mr. Ed. Legg and children were visiting in our ‘burg’” Sunday. Mrs. R. E. Phagan left for Ala bama Sunday to spend Christmas. The school boys and girls have all come home for Christmas. Miss Willie Phagan has been go ing to school at Villa Rica to her uncle, Prof. J. M. Mr. Pat Edwards, one of our prom inent young men, has been attend ing the A, and M. Kellett and family, of Winterville, spent Christmas with the family of Mr. R. R. Petrie. Mr. Kellett preached a very interesting sermon Sunday to a large congrega tion. He was our pastor for two years and we are always glad to have him visit our church and preach for us. Mrs. Addie Patterson and chil dren of Cartersville are spending some time with the family of Mr. John Mize. Mrs. Gleen Hewitt and children of Birmingham are visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Clay. Miss Kathleen Rollins, who is tea ching, near Rome is spending the holidays with home filks. She has as her guest Miss Pauline Cunning ham. Miss Eben Kemp, of South Geor gia ig visiting relatives here this week, Mr. Seth Scott, of Chicamauga, is spending a few days with rolatives‘ here. Mr. Sam Wilkins, one of our most farmers, has forty hens from which he has sold $68.00 worth of oggs} this year besideg using all they need ed for a family of eight. He has alof sold $14.00 worth of chickens. If ony one can beat that let us h(\ar‘ from you. Miss Ester Babb, of the G. 1. C. school at Miledgeville is spending the holidays at home. Mrs. J. W. Hancock, of Atlanta, is here visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Taylor. Mr. A. A. Griggs has been quite sick for the last two weeks with a sciatic pain in his hip. Dr. Middlebrooks is igving attenton and he is improv ing. The writer with about 22 other guests enjoyed a sumptous turkey dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hamilton Christmas day. Mr. and Mrs. John Mize, Jr., are spending sometime with relatives in Cartersville. Mrs. Dr. Hancock and baby of Macon, are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rason Dobbs. Also Miss Avarilia Dobbs, of Woodtocks, is visiting re latives here. The many friends and customers of Mr. John Mize, Sr., will be glad to know that he will remain here and run the blacksmith and repair shop for Mr. McEechern. The shop will be openfall the time and Mr. Mize will be ready to %o all kinds of re pair work. He is a first class work man and makes a speciality of horse shoeing, give him a trial and ge con vinced. Mr. James Lindley and family have moved back to our community from Hiram. We welcome them back. Miss Pearl Pierce and Mrs. Nettie Scroggins spent Saturday and Sunday with relatives near Mableton. Prof. Parker Rice will open the Spring term of his school here next Monday. Quite acrowd of guests enjoyed a Christmas supper at the home of Mr. Henry Pierce Xmas night. Mr. Richard Adair and familiy spent Saturday and Sunday with re latives at Elizabeth. RUBY. SARDIS. Rev. W. E. McCollum #vill preach at this place the first Sunday in Jan uary. The holidays passed off very pleasantly wit_h us without any acci dents that we have heard of. Santa Claus was very good to us—he never brought us enough to make ourselves sick. Mrs. J. T. Garrett has been very low for the past two weeks. Mrs. Hamrick lost a good cow last week by getting her head hung in the barn. Mr. Tom Moody, of Atlanta, who has been visiting Mr. Alec Moody, has returned home. We think the men folks caught up with their hunting last week. We heard lots of shots, but never saw many rabbits. Mr. George Burt came home from Americus to spend the holidays. Mr. L. J. Gray visited in Atlanta last week. Mr. and Mrs. E. Y. Hill, Miss Georgia, Mrs. Jennie and Mr. Paul Burt visited in Atlanta Sunday. Misg Lois went to Atlanta to spend the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. V. G. Gray were the guests of Mrs. Jenunie Burt last week. Last Saturday and Sunday were our regular meeting days and Sat urday we ordained three deacona. Rev. A. J. Morgan, of Acworth, preached the ordination sermon and made it very impressive on the dea cons, and on Sunday Bro. McCollum preached a very fine sermon. Sunday afternoon was regular singing evening at this place. We had some good singing and elected new officers for the next six months, Bro. W. E. McCollum was elected president and Mr. Aubrey MecLain vice president. The infant son of Mr, and Mrs. Jim Kuykendall was buried at this place last week. We sympathize with the bereaved ones. Mr. Claud Dobbs and Miss Pearl Bozeman were married on last Suo day; also Mr. John Minows and Miss Beckie Van. We wish for them much joy and a long and happy life together. Miss Luciel MeCollum visited Misses Lucy and Ruby Powers Sun day. Mr. L. W. Foster has purchased a piano for his daughter, Miss Nellia, Mr. M. C. Powers has been on the sick list the past week. Hope for him a speedy recovery. The Sunday school at this place is on a boom. Next Sunday is the time to elect new officers and teach ers. We hope everybody will come, and let's try to get the right man for the right place and take more interest in the work and have one of the best schools in the county. BILL.
