FARMERS URGED TO CO-OPERATE
WITH DEMONSTATION AGENT
To the Farmers of Cobb County:
A few months ago, I with sever
al public spirited men of the County,
launched a proposition to employ
and maintain in Cobb County a
Farm Demonstration Agent to work
among the farmers and try to im
prove general farm conditions, and
encourage in every way possible, the
best methods of farming. About sev
enty counties out of the hundred
and forty six in Georgia, had pre
viously employed such men to be the
County Commissioner of Agriculture.
After discussing with the authori
ties of the State College of Agricul
ture, and the U. S. Department of
Agriculture, the question of placing
such a man in Cobb County, it was
found that it was necessary to pay
one-half of the expenses of this man
for two years, after which time th:
State College of Agriculture and the
U. S. Department of Agriculture
would maintain this man in the
County permanently, at their own
expense. We raised about $3OO of
the fund by public subscription, and
the County Commissioners generous
ly contributed the other $3OO which
made the $6OO fund that was nec
essary for us to raise. The State
College of Agriculture and the U. S,
Department of Agriculture paid $6OO
per year, which made it possible for
us to employ a man to be Farm Dem
onstration Agent for Cobb County,
who is to work in cooperation with
the two above named institutions.
We have been very fortunate in se
curing the services of a good man
to take charge of this work. He is
Mr. J. E. Creel who for two years
had charge of the Agricultural work
at the District Agricultural School
at Powder Springs. Mr. Creel is thir
ty years of age, was raised on the
farm of his father in Campbell Conu
ty, attended the North Georgia Ag
ricultural College for three years,
and graduated from the Institution.
Since graduating from Dahlonega,
he has been teaching Agriculture in
the Agricultural Schools of this
State. He had charge of the Agri
cultural Department, including the
farm, at Powder Springs for two
years. He then took charge of the

he was located for one year. He has
had charge of the Agricultural Work
at the South Georgia Normal Insti

at which place he was teaching at
the time we employed him to take
charge of Cobb County. He is there

he has been teaching during the last
four years.
The work of Mr. Creel as the Farm
Demonstration Agent of Cobb Coun
ty will be to conduct demonstrations
with the adult farmers in every
school district throughout the Coun
ty, in an effort to try to show that
the progressive methods of farming,
as advocated by the various colleges,
experiment stations, and farm papers
are not only PRACTICAL but they
are PROFITABLE.
Another duty of the Farm Dem
onstration Agent, will be to organ
ize, and promote, Boys Corn Clubs
and Girls Canning Clubs. He will
give instruction to all of the boys
and girls trying these crops, and vis
it them from time to time,.
These three lines of work will be
followed and developed so as to be
of every general benefit possible
to the County as a whole. In addit
ion to the above he will assist and
advise the farmers in every way that
he can, in order to put the agricul
tural interests of the County on the
best possible plane. He will travel
throughout the entire County dur
ing the year, trying to assist the
farmers in every way he can. He will
try to help and assist every man who
wishes his advice and instructions.
This is an opportunity for the farm
ers of the County to have the ser
vices of a good progressive farmer
to visit them from time to time, and
co-operate with them in producing
more, getting better market condi

soil and maintain its fertility. The
services of this man costs you noth
