Col. West Will Not Be Can
didate Fer Bacon’s Un
expired Term. '
Last Saturday night shortly before
ten o'clock it was announced by Col
w. S. West that he would not be
a cazdidate for United States Senator
at the Demociatic Primary to be held
this summer to fill the unexpired
term of the late Senator A. 0. Bacon.
immediately following the an
nouncement Governor John Marshal!
glaton, who had been in conference
with several friends at his office in
the Capitol came out and announced
that he would be a candidate for the
office made vacant by the death of
Senator Bacon.
The action of Col. West and of
Gov. Slaton had been expected as it
had been the general impression all
over the State that Col. West would
step aside and allow Gov. Slaton to
run for the unexpired term of Sena
tor Bacon.
