‘ The indications are that at least
half a dozen candidates for Governor
will be in the race. About a dozen
have been prominently mentioned SO
far.
Colonel J. Randolph Anderson, of
Savannah. seems to be the most
thoroughly in earnest so far and as
he has a summer home in Marietta
a local interest attaches to his can
didacy. He is President of the Sen
ate and will become Governor if
lGovernor Slaton resigns. It is prob
able that Hon. A. A. Lawrence, an
other old Cobb county citizen, will
succeed Colonel Anderson as Sena
tor from the Savannah district.
Dr. L. G. Hardman, of Commercz,
has announced for Governor. Hon.
W. H. Burwell, of Sparta, speaker of
the House, will likely enter the
race.
Among the others who have the
matter under consideration are:
Judge W. E. Thomas, of Valdosta,
!Judge A. W. Fite, of Cartersville,
IHon. W. J. Harris, of Cedartown,
'l)irector of the Census, Hon. N. E.
Harris, of Bibb, Hon. J. R. Smith,
lof Atlanta and Hon. Jesse Mercer, of
l Fitzgerald.
| Railroad Commissioner Murphey
iCandler has considered entering the
| race but has abandoned the idea for
. the present.
i There is a general disposition to
' let the Gevernorship go to a South
! Georgia man if that section can unite
lon a candidate.

Some valuable residences changed
hands in Marietta last week, the
trades being made through Mr. Wm,
T. Holland. The beautiful home of
Dr. C. A. Wikle on Church street
is now the property of Mr. J. M,
Austin as a result of one of these
sales. Dr. Wikle took Mr. Austin's
home place on Henderson street as
part payment and the balance of
the price was paid by Mr. Austin
in cash.
Immediately following this trans
fer Dr. Wikle exchanged the Austin
place on Henderson street to T. L.
Wallace and J. R. Brumby for the
old T. W. Read place on Cherokee
street.
Every man in these deals feeis

four heads, first extravagance and;
