GOUNTRY GENTLEMAN
ARTIGLE WIDELY READ
Work of Georgia Boosters Is
Highly Praised By Maga
zine.
Intense interest has been aroused
by an article and an editorial in
the April 11th issue of the Country
Gentleman, one of the most widely
read agricultural journals in the
world, on the work of the Georgia
Chamber of Commerce for the agri
cultural upbuilding of the State. The
article is based on census figures
showing that the products of Geor
gia farms, mills, mines and forests
created an annual total wealth of
nearly $400,000,000 but the tax gi
gest showed an increase in taxtable
wealth of less than $40,000,000.
The article states that there are
fewer cattle in Georgia than in 1860;
372,000 fewer sheep and 485,000
fewer hogs; that, while the corn
yield has steadily increase, Georgia
imports annually 80,000,000 bushels,
and relatively as much wheat and
oats, meal and flour, hay and forag-,
beef and salt pork sides; and that,
with the value of the cotton crop
deducted, there is $27,000,000 on
the wrong side of the ledger.
The State Department of Agricul
ture, the State College of Agricul
ture, the District Agricultural
Schools, the Boy's Corn Clubs, Boy's
Pig Clubs, Girl's Canning Clubs, the
rapidly increasing number of Federal
Farm Demonstration Agents employ
ed by the counties, and the Georgia
Chamber of Commerce, are credited
with having produced a wonderful
awakening to the possibilities of
Georgia and a determined, enthuss
jastic effort to make the state agri
culturally independent.
The value of the article to Geor
gia, beyond its advertising effect in
other sections of the country, is its
forcefulness in awakening our own
people to the fact that their cancal

in showing them the road out
through the enlightened selfishness
that should enduce them to give
prompt financial support to the work
of the Georgia Chamber of Com

Most significant in this connec

the bankers of Crigp County, publish
ed in their local paper a few days
ago, notifying the farmers of Crisp
County that, to enable them to raise
cattle and hogs, the banks wouid
loan $50,000, in amounts not over
$5OO to one farmer, for a term of
two years at legal rate of interest
for the purchase of livestock. This
is the direct result of the efforts of
the Georgia Chamber of Commerce to
secure a better system of rural cred
its, and should be followed by the
bankers of every county in the
state.

soaks right into the kidneys, through
the walls and linings; cleans out the
little filtering glands and cells, and
gives the kidneys new strength to do

1 You desire your home to be modern and
‘up-to-date in every respect, do you not?
The modern home, then. is run by Elec
!tricity. Breakfast in this kind of household is
.prepared by means of Electricity on the
'dining-room table. After breakfast the elec
j’tric motor starts purring, attached as it is to
'the dish washing machine, the clothes washer
land wringer, the sewing machine, the family
isilver polisher. The old time broom is re
‘placed by the vacuum cleaner, and the elec
tric flatiron makes light work of the days
ironing. And when the time comes to “light

‘electricity again prevails in the household.
