POLITICAL GOSSIP. B’
Vi mm:':,:—g,&*fl‘:r;‘:’{y’:al
Georgia politicians are still w:m»i
dering what is going to happen. i
They don't know what Governor
Brown is going to do and it is wnar-!
ing on their nerves. Also, it is nnisn(l]}
about that Solicitor General Hugh |
Dorsey may allow the use of h‘.n"
name in the Governorship race. ,
Mr. Dorsey has made such reputa- |
tion by his management of the Frank i
trial that thousands of men are rv;u‘_\'l
to vote for him for almost anything |
he would like to have, '
So, Mr. Dorsey and (}()\‘urnnrl
Brown as possible candidates have
set the politicians guessing. 'l‘h«-yl
can’'t do anything but guess and they |
know that the show will really not|
start until Governor Brown and M.‘.‘
Dorsey have made known their in
tentions. I
The full meaning of the above
statements can be better understood
when it is remembered that not a
man who is now in the race for Gov
ernor has a definite following and the
same thing applies to those who have
been mentioned, with the single ex
ception of Governor Brown. His al
lignments have been somewhat dis
arranged by his fight with Union
Labor, but as he has gained some
and lost some the net result is not
very materially altered. He has
thrown away the city vote and would
doubtless expect to gain in the coun
try and as the county unit plan
would operate against the cities he
is not supposed to lose if the farmers
take sides against the Labor Unions.
As none of the others has ever run
before the prople nobody knows what
vote they could reasonably expect
to get. It might be large or it might
be small.
It is the definite strength of Gov
ernor Brown as opposed to the in
definite following of other men that
makes everything hinge on the
course that he may decide upon.
* * * *
Mr. J. R. Smith was in Mariotm!
twice last week in conference wilh‘
Governor Brown and has been in,
communication with him (~ons(antlvz
gince the death of Senator Bacon. i
He was anxious for Governor Sla-;
ton to appoint Governor Brown to',
the vacancy. He was Governor
Brown's representative in communi
cating to the Democratic Committee
at its meeting in Atlanta April 4th
the ex-Governor’s views in reference
to the County Unit plan.
1t is doubtful if any man in Geor
gia is closer to Gorernor Brown than
Mr. J. R. Smith. He says Governor
Brown is going to run for the Bacon
vacancy. But he does not say that
Governor Brown has said so.in so
many words, for Governor Brownl
keeps his thoughts under lock and
key until he gets ready to let ‘em go,
but it is a mighty safe bet that “Bob"”
Smith knows as much as any other
man and a little more in regard to
Governor Brown's inmost cogitations. |
What he says is given as the best!
grade of political dope on the mar-‘
ket. He may be wrong. All signs
fail in dry times.
* b * *
If Governor Brown gets into the
race for the Bacon vacancy he will
cross swords with his recent ally,
Governor Slaton. Also, Tom. Felder,
Tom. Hardwick and the Honorable
J. R. Cooper.
Tom Hardwick made a fine im
pressior by his opening speech. 1
was commenting the other day on
the fact that Tom Felder seemed a
little slow in getting into action.
“Don’'t you fool yourself about
Tom Felder,”” said an astute politi
cian. ‘“Once I thought Tom Felder
was not doing auything and he roll
ed up a l’-“,: ity of 30,000 and the
am thankful, but the candidates are
beginning to count their chickens
and mention some of the counties in
witich they are solid.
Col. Randolph Anderszon says he
is sclid in Cobb. He will move to
Lkis summer home in Marietta in a
few weeks and if he gets around
¢mong the boys like he can he will
win lots of votes. He is a most gon
ial gentleman, as clever ¢s the day
is long, would sit up all night to d»
a man a favor, and is one of those
free, open hearted fellows that you
couldn’t help liking if you tried.
And with it all he ig a fine business
man and will make a good Governor
if he is elected,
Dr. Hardman is a splendid man.
He has been a prohibition leader, is
a high-class, honorable gentleman,
familiar with the affairs of Stare
through his experience in the Legis
lature and Senate and would honor
the office.
Judge Nat Harris of Macon is also
in the race. He is the only Ex-Con
federate soldier who has announced.
He is a man with a clean record, has
lived &' long and useful life, is tho
father of the Technological School,
is loved and respected by all who
know him, and he too would make
a good Governor.
* * * *
I haven't space for the ‘“Also Men
tioned.”” There is a cowpenful of
them.
But I am thinking that the whole
bunch will get a shake up if Hugh
Dorsey decides to run. He will be
a possibility until the entries close.
Governor Brown continues to
print his comments on Labor Unions,
I understand he has two or three
more communications for the press
before he covers the ground as
planned. Then some sort of an
nouncement from him may be ex
pected. That would make it about
the last week in May or the first of
June.

Backache, urinary disorders, and
rheumatism, are caused from weak,
inactive kidneys, which fail to filter
out the impurities and keep the blood
pure, and the only way on earth to

The new discovery, Croxone, cures
such conditions because it reaches
the very roots of the disease. 1t

MARIETTA FIRST METHODIST CHURCH
The following letter is from Dr. H. M. Dußose, pastor of the First
Methodist Church, Atlanta.
Rev. Geo. W. Duval,
Marietta, Ga.
My Dear Brother:
Answering yours of the 20th, instant, I beg to say that
Rev. Luther B. Bridgers has been with me in two revival meet
ings during the past two years. I have no hesitancy in com
mending him as a man of God, unselfish in all his ways and
thinking and possessed of unusual gifts as a preacher and
revivalist. I know, and have known, no man in the evangelis
tic work in our Church whose methods and fitness I would more
readily indorse than his. The preaching of Bro. Bridgers is
sound, clear, strong and orthodox. All classes of hearers
are directly reached by his earnest, persuasive method of
representing the gospel. During his meeting here there were
men of unusual culture who constantly attended upon his min
istry. These as well as the plainest people, enjoyed and
shared alike in his instructive and thoughtful discourses.
The effect of his preaching on that section of the First
Church congregation which heard him was very marked, with good
results.
In addition to his strong pulpit work, and his effective
altar service, Bro. Bridgers is a fine gospel singer, and his
songs were almost as effective as his sermons.
I pray that your meeting may result in much good to your
congregation and city. Faithfully,
H. M. DUBOSE.
