N MEMORY OF MRS. WILDER.
Mrs. J. J. Wilder, who was almost
instantly killed last Wednesday at
dusk when an engine on the L. & N.
Railroad struck her limousine as it
stood stalled on the track, was taken
to Savannab on Thursday evening.
She was a member of Christ church
but her funeral was conducted froia
the residence by Rev. McGlohon, of
St. Paul’s, as her own rector was out
of town, and she was laid to rest
in Bonaventure Cemetery beside her
husband. She had been president of
the Colonial Dan+s of Gecorgia for
14 vears and was a member ‘also’ of
the D. A. R. and U. D. C. and these
societies sent beautiful floral tri
butes. The Society of Cincinnatti,
one of the oldest patriotic bands of
men in our country, also sent an
exquisite floral tribute,
She had been for years vice-re
gent for Georgia of the Mount Ver
non Association which owns and
cares for the home of George \Wash
ington. These ladies meet every
May and spend ten days at Mount
Vernon, inspecting the buildings,
receiving reports from the custodi
ans and planning for the next year's
care -of the place. Mrs. Wilder held
an important position among this
band of patriotic ladies and was de
voted to har duties. She was a
daughter of Thomas Butler King,
whose wife was Ann Page, of St.
Simon’'s Island. Her father was =
congressman for many years and
her maternal grandfather, who
cam¢ to South Carolina from Eng
land, was the first collector of cus
toms at the port of San Francisco
and afterward an envoy from the
Confederate government to England
and France.
For more than 50 years Mrs. Wil
der had spent her summers at “‘Oalk
ton”, her beautiful home on Kenne
saw Avenue. Although she was 81
she was still interested in current
events, was a faithful attendant at
church and visited her friends ani
those in affliction daily. On the
day of her death she had visited the
sick child of a neighbor. She loved
life and her fellow creatures and to
do good to all who needed help. It
is some comfort to know she could
not have suffered much after the
accident. She leaves one daughter,
Mrs. J. Randolph Anderson, one
grand daughter and one grandsoun.
