GEORGIA, COBB COUNTY.
‘We, the Grand Jurors selected,
chosen and sworn for the Novembet
Term, 1914, of Cobb Superior Court,
beg leave to make these our general
Presentments:
‘ First.
The County Otticers have made
their reports according to law,
which have been marked approved
by our Foreman, and attached t»o
these, our Presentments, and made
a 2 part of the same.
Second,
We have, through committee, ex
amined the dockets of the various
Justices of the Peace and Notaries
Public of the County, and find the
same neatiy and correctly kept. |
Third. |
We have, through committee, ex
amined the bocks of the Clerk of the
Superior Court, and find the office
and books in a neatly and correctly
kept manner. We commend this
faithful official for his wuniform
courtesy to the public, and for the
thorough system of his office. Cobb
County loses two faithful and effi
cient public servants in the retire
ment of Mr. Virgil McCleskey and
Mr. Ben Carrie.
Fourth.
We have also examinred the books
of the Sheriff, County Commission
ers, Tax Collector, Treasurer, Taa
Receiver and Ordinary, and find the
same neatly and correctly kept.
Mifth,
We have, through committee, ex
amined and inspected the convict
Camps, and find Westbrooks’ Camp
in good condition, and the convicts
well cared for. We also find that
they have four pigs in good condi
tion, and also find the stock, har
ness and tools in good condition. We
have also examined Mayes’ Camn,
and find the same in good condition,
and find the conviets well cared for
We find that they have twelve pigs
in goo shape, and all stock, harness
and tools in gzood condition, excent
two mules which are not in very
good condition. We also found the
Barracks and buildings in good sani
tary condition. We also found 2 3-4
acres in turnips, 1 1-8 acres in ro!-‘
lards, 400 or 520 bushels of seed po
tatoes and 24 pork hogs weighing
about 200 pounds each, ‘also two
brood sows and six pigs, and one
stock hog. We fournd Mr. Morris'
camp, No. 1, in good condition.
Sixth.
Mr. W. J. Headen, County ‘Com
missioner, carie before us with re
ference to the rural telephone. lines
throughout the county, and it has
eome to the knowledge of the Grand
Jury that the rural telephone lines
are in bad shape. We recommend
that the people in the county in
charge of these lines use their best
efforts to keep the poles up, and in
good shape, so that the traveling
public will not be damaged or hurt
by any poles or wires that may be
thrown down or which may have
fallen into the public roads.
Seventh.
We ‘have, through committee, ex
amined the Alms House, and find
thirteen inmates; eleven white and

We have also examined the Court
House, and the same is not in as
good condition as it should be, and
we recommend ‘that the same be
scoured out, and kept in a more
sanitary condition. We recommend
that the ol!d carpet in the up-stairs
hall be taken up, and that the hall
be cleaned out thoroughly, and that
the same covering be put in the hail
up stairs as is in the hall down
stairs.
We also recommend that the Jani
tor be put undar the direction o*
the Sheriff.
We also recommend that double
doors be put in the back end of the
Court Room, on each side,” with
spring hinges, so that they will op
en both ways.
We also recommend that more
comfortable chairg be placed in the
Jury box, in place of the benches
that are in there now, as they are
very uncomfortable.
We also recommend that the old
carpet up stairs in the Court Room
be replaced by new carpet, and the
Court Room be cleaned thoroughly.
The carpet in the court room now is
dangerous, as it is getting ragged
‘and is likely to trip and throw peo
ple.
. We also recommend that a shelter
be placed over the door that opens
into the boiler room of the Court
House from the outside, and that a
small ditch be dug arund this open
